THE HALF

CHAPTER TWO THE HALF Vanguard International School was built in a faraway land, isolated from every other school. The school had one strict policy: Only vampires were allowed. Anything other than a vampire was rejected. Vanguard International was one of the most sought-after schools in the world because of a rumor that had spread far beyond its walls. They said the school accepted only thirty-five students. But out of those thirty-five students, only five would be chosen. And those five students would have their wishes granted by the school. Even the most impossible wishes. Inside Vanguard International, vampires were divided according to the color of their eyes. Yellow-eyed vampires were known as the lowest-born. Nothing about them was considered particularly special, and some were even used as servants by the red-eyed vampires. Red-eyed vampires were different. They were powerful and possessed abilities that were almost impossible to describe. Then there were the blue-eyed vampires. They were pure-blood vampires. And there was one thing all blue-eyed vampires had in common. They were extremely rare. But none of that mattered to Crystal right now. She was standing between two boys who looked like they wanted to kill each other. The boy on her right turned and looked at her. Crystal immediately became intimidated by his glowing red eyes and stumbled backward. She fell straight against the other boy. Crystal quickly looked up. He had red eyes too. She immediately pulled away from him and looked around at the students sitting before her. Everyone was staring. “You are a half,” the boy she had fallen against said. “Half?” Crystal asked, confused. “Half-human blood.” Crystal stared at him for a few seconds. Then she burst out laughing. She began fanning her face with one hand. “Bro, you must be the joker around here.” The boy's expression darkened. “Do I look like I'm joking?” He opened his mouth slightly, revealing sharp fangs. Crystal's laughter instantly stopped. She held her breath. The air suddenly felt much heavier. That was when she finally realized it. She was standing among students with fangs. They were vampires. Crystal slowly touched her chest. The necklace was gone. She looked around frantically. “What are you looking for?” the boy asked. Crystal looked up at him. What was she supposed to say? I'm looking for a necklace that somehow transported me from the human world into whatever strange place I'm currently in. Yeah. That definitely wasn't something she could say. Before she could answer, another boy stepped forward. “Hi. My name is Kevin.” He stretched out his hand with a friendly smile. Crystal looked at his hand. Then she pushed it away. “I didn't ask you.” The students gasped. Kevin blinked. Then, surprisingly, he smiled again. “That means you know me.” Crystal rolled her eyes. “No, bro. I don't.” “Wow. You aren't as popular as you thought,” the boy standing behind Crystal finally said. The students burst into laughter. Kevin's smile disappeared. He clearly hadn't expected a half to speak to him like that. “I am popular. Only irrelevant people don't know me.” “I hope you're not talking about me,” Crystal replied. She placed one hand on her hip and glared at the students. “Who is in charge here?” The students looked at one another. They seemed to be wondering whether the strange girl had a few screws loose in her head. One of the teachers, who had been quiet until then, finally stepped forward. “Follow me.” Crystal looked at her. The woman had blonde hair and a serious expression. “Follow you? Why?” “For some reasons.” The teacher turned and began walking. After a few steps, she stopped and looked back. Crystal was still standing in exactly the same spot. “I don't listen to just anyone, okay?” Crystal said with a smile. She turned around and began walking in the opposite direction. Before she could get far, Kevin walked toward her. He had black hair, just like the other boy, but his personality seemed completely different. Kevin had a carefree aura. The other boy had a cold one. “I like you,” Kevin said. He casually placed an arm around Crystal's shoulders. Crystal rolled her eyes. Her brown eyes met the other boy's emotionless red eyes. For some reason, she felt as though he was silently warning her not to respond to Kevin. Crystal frowned. What's his problem? “Can we go now?” the teacher asked. Crystal finally turned toward her. “Fine.” She followed the teacher, leaving the students behind. Everyone remained silent. They had never seen anyone enter Vanguard International School like that before. And in only a few minutes, the strange girl had already managed to shock almost everyone. Crystal didn't know it yet. But her arrival at Vanguard International was about to change everything.
