CHAPTER FOUR
THE IQ TEST
Five minutes before the IQ class started, Alexandra arrived at the school in her Mercedes-Benz after completing a contract for her father.
The headmaster of Vanguard International couldn't seem to handle anything without his daughter. He always needed her help with almost everything.
Alexandra walked into the school, looking around at everything she had personally chosen.
She was the one who had insisted that the school be painted red, with the classroom chairs and tables painted black.
She walked into the vice principal's office, intending to disturb Miss Karen for a little while.
“Miss Karen, how are you doing?” Alexandra asked as soon as she walked in.
“Miss Alex, you finally came. So late,” Miss Karen replied.
She watched as Alexandra looked around the room as though she were searching for something unusual.
“Yup, I am. Bye.”
Alexandra turned around and walked out.
She didn't want to hear anything else.
She was already tired and didn't need any more stress.
As she walked toward the classroom, Alexandra smiled when she saw Kevin and Alexander.
She was happy because Alexander had finally listened to her.
She knew Alexander hated physical touches, and she was even more convinced that she and Alexander were meant to be because they shared the same name.
Alexandra walked toward Kevin and glanced at whatever he was doing in his book.
She noticed the drawing of a girl's face.
He was drawing.
“Who is the crush, Kevin?” Alexandra asked.
Kevin immediately looked at her as though her question had caught him off guard.
“It's no one.”
He quickly closed the book and glared at Alexandra.
“Do you know?” Alexandra asked Alexander.
She noticed that he had been staring at a girl sitting in front of the classroom.
Alexander didn't reply.
He simply opened his book.
Alexandra was already used to his cold replies, but at least they were talking.
That was better than not talking at all.
---
Inside the classroom, Mr. David stood in front of the students.
“I have five riddles with me, and you have one minute to answer each question.”
He had already explained what the school was all about, especially to the students who still didn't understand exactly why they had been brought there.
“Number one,” Mr. David announced.
Everyone became quiet.
“The richer you are in me, the less you can spend me. Who am I?”
Mr. David started the timer.
The students stared at one another, trying to figure out the answer.
Crystal tapped her fingers against the desk.
What kind of question is this?
Suddenly—
“Time.”
Alexander broke the silence.
He hadn't even used thirty seconds.
Mr. David smiled.
“Correct, Mr. Blackwood.”
Crystal looked back in shock.
She stared at Alexander.
Was he some kind of brain maniac?
She quickly turned back around.
“I still have four more here,” Mr. David said. “Next question. Get ready.”
Crystal sat up straight.
She could feel her body becoming tense.
“I always arrive before you notice me, but I disappear the moment you look at me. What am I?”
Mr. David started the timer again.
The students became silent.
This time, everyone seemed determined to answer before Alexander.
“Distraction.”
Crystal's voice suddenly cut through the silence.
She smiled proudly.
Mr. David looked at her.
“Correct.”
Crystal leaned back in her chair with a satisfied expression.
For the first time, Alexandra noticed something strange.
Alexander had moved uncomfortably in his seat.
It was subtle, but Alexandra saw it.
This was the first time she had actually seen him show an emotion during a test.
Alexandra looked at the girl sitting in front of her.
What is so special about her?
Kevin had been drawing her.
And now Alexander was reacting to her.
Alexandra narrowed her eyes.
Something about this new girl was definitely strange.
“Correct, Miss... Em... Miss...” Mr. David struggled to remember her name.
“My name is Crystal,” Crystal replied.
She sat down proudly.
“You are smart,” Helen whispered beside her.
Helen gave her a thumbs-up.
Crystal smiled.
“Thanks.”
Across the room, Alexandra tightened her grip on her pen.
She wasn't used to losing.
Especially not to someone who had just arrived at Vanguard International.
Who exactly is this girl?
Mr. David cleared his throat.
“Three more questions to go.”
Everyone became quiet again.
Mr. David looked at his book.
“I can be borrowed forever, but I can never be returned. What am I?”
He started the timer.
The classroom fell silent.
Crystal's eyes moved around the room.
Alexander was already thinking.
Alexandra was staring at the question.
Kevin was smiling.
And Crystal suddenly realized something.
This wasn't just an IQ test anymore.
Everyone wanted to prove who was the smartest.
And she had no intention of losing.
