Episode4

By the time Tom got to the hospital, it was dawn already, a pediatric ward, without direction from anyone, because he was well acquainted with the wards in the hospital because he had been in the hospital a couple of times last year, when Lina's seizures started. He did not stop when the nurses called his attention, he had only one thing in mind, and that was to see Lina.

When he entered the ward, his daughter was sleeping so peacefully that he wondered if it was possible for someone so peaceful as his daughter to experience such violent seizures. He reached out to gently feel her pulse, but was careful not to wake or disturb the tubes and drip tips that were inserted into her body.

“ I am sorry my pumpkin. I wished I had arrived earlier,” he told her while sleeping. “ I feel so horrible about myself right now. I am sorry for choosing to spend time with a stranger over spending time with you.

“ Master Tom.” His daughter's nanny, Casandra, called from the door. The doctor wishes to speak to you.

“ I will be with him shortly,“ Tom said without turning to look at her.

“ Alright “

Tom gave his daughter a swift kiss on her forehead before leaving to answer the doctor.

At the doctor's office, Tom sat waiting patiently for the doctor to finish his telephone call.

“ Your daughter's sugar level is low “

“The doctor is only seven years old. “

“ Children as young as a day old may have low glucose in the first few hours of their birth. This could be as a result of the fact that mothers have taken certain medications or are diabetic.

“ Doctor, she is so young. “

“ Which is why she needs sugar, a lot of it. “

Tom remained silent and so he continued. “ The nurse will send her prescriptions to you. You will have to return to the hospital for a medical examination next month,” the doctor said and stood up.

Tom shook his hand and walked out of the office.

He returned to his daughter's ward. She was awake now, grinning at something her nanny was telling her. He stood at the door admiring the sight of them happy without wanting to interrupt them.

Neither of them noticed his presence in the room, they were so engrossed in each other, the only thing that mattered was what Casandra was saying and Lina was listening happily.

Tom knocked on the door frame even though the door was open. They both turned their heads towards hugging the door.

“ Hello pumpkin,“ Tom grinned at his daughter.

“ Hi daddy,” Lina said weakly, but the joy in her eyes when she saw Tom made his eyes watery.

“ Master Tom, can I step out a bit to make a call ? “ I promised to be back in a jiffy.”

Tom walks into the ward in graceful strides. He pulled a chair that was around the corner of the room, to his daughter's bed. Casandra stood up.

“ Take as much time as you want,” he took his daughter's hands, and kissed them before using both his hands to cover hers. “ I am sure pumpkin won't miss you so much now that I am here.”

Casandra smiled. “ I hope not.”

“ I still dream of dinosaurs and little ducks.”

Tom adjusted in his seat. Already smiling because he knew where this dream was heading too. The last time she had a dream about dinosaurs and ducks, she insisted they go to the park to see dinosaurs, and that discussion ended up with him doing her will.

‘ Did dinosaurs swim with the ducks this time, or did they just wave at each other and then drift apart.

She laughed, her laughter echoing in the room.

“ No daddy. This time, they were very friendly with each other and even spoke for a very long time.

“ What were they discussing ? “he asked curiously, maybe they may not visit the park after all.

“ The dinosaur wanted to learn to swim like a duck. The dinosaurs loved how the duck floated on water.

“ Oh, that is very interesting… “

“ I know you would find it very interesting.”

“ I have no choice, but you know, I fear that the dinosaur may never learn to swim like a duck. “

“ Why is that so ? She was a bit offended.

“ Because the dinosaurs are very heavy,” Tom said, kissing her hand in his palm.

“ Well, they could still be friends… are we going home today ?”

“ Yes baby”

“ Can we go to the park when we get home? “

Tom burst out laughing. This laughter was genuine and it came from inside. He laughed because he was expecting yet she caught him off.

“ Pumpkin….”

“ Daddy please ….I will behave myself. “

“ Alright pumpkin, we will go there as soon as you are strong too.”

Casandra returned with a nurse, who began examining Lina.

They arrived home at night. Tom allowed his assistant to oversee all his appointments and business schedules, he wanted to spend the entire day with his daughter.

Then they got home, he was already asleep. He carried her upstairs to his bedroom, and tucked her in bed, before placing her dinosaur and duck teddy in her arms and then kissed her good night, but didn't leave the room.

He walked over to her tiny dressing mirror and thought her room needed renovation. Not that the current state of the room was bad, but he wanted it to be as current as possible. In his head he began calculating the new things he was going to buy. When he saw a red ribbon lying carelessly on the floor, he remembered her, Dora.

All day, he never thought of the strange woman who aroused him, like fire on dry leaves.

Not that there was much to think about her, now that he remembered her, every part of his body responded to the memory of her.

Yes, that was what she was ever going to be to him, a memory. They were both adults who were horny and wanted to satisfy their s****l urge instead of ignoring it.

That was all to whatever estate they had last night, and nothing more; nor was there anything that would come out of it. And so he pushed her out if his thoughts and kissed his daughter good night before turning off the light and leaving the room.
