PROLOGUE.

Three hundred years before Lucien Darius Vorn was born, the Moon Seer walked into the royal court covered in blood. No one knew whose blood it was. She refused to say. The ancient wolves gathered around her, their faces grim beneath the blue light of the winter moon. The High Elder stepped forward. "What did you see?" The seer lifted her blind eyes. "A king." "Which king?" "The one who cannot be defeated." The room went silent. She continued. "His wolf will be stronger than every ancient bloodline combined. He will break armies. He will crush Alpha bloodlines. He will become the most feared ruler our world has ever known." The High Elder frowned. "And who will stop him?" The seer smiled. "No one." A murmur swept through the room. "No one?" "No army." Her voice became quieter. "No witch." "No ancient bloodline." "No rival Alpha." "Then what can destroy him?" The seer turned toward the moon. "Nothing." She paused. "Except one woman." The elders stared at her. "She will have no extraordinary power." "Then how can she defeat him?" "She won't." The seer's expression became sorrowful. "She will do something far more dangerous." "What?" The seer whispered: "She will make him love." The candles extinguished simultaneously. Then came the final words of the prophecy. "The strongest king will never kneel before an army. He will never kneel before a bloodline. He will never kneel before death. But a woman born without power shall bring the wolf beneath the crown to his knees. She shall carry the mark of the moon upon her flesh. She shall stand beside him not beneath him. And when the king chooses his mate, kingdoms will either unite beneath their crowns or burn because of their love." The prophecy was sealed. The Moon Temple was abandoned. And for generations, the royal family believed the prophecy had died with the seer. They were wrong. It had only been waiting.
