Chapter 5

2 months later: "I guess a coffee won't hurt Nate." Tessa, my only best friend alive on this planet taunted me. After that night was taken under the witness protection program  for a month or so but the investigating officers couldn't come to any conclusions as to who was the mastermind behind those attacks so they let me free. I was now back on work and no harm or any attacks were ever aimed at me since then. But I was still under police observation in case anything went wrong. "Come on Nate! You gotta live on. Just look at you babe, you never looked like this I mean where are those sexy curves gone? You've to eat and drink to survive, remember?" She was tried to encourage me but the only think I could do was to stare blank at her.  She was completely irritated with my behavior after I shoved off the waiter without ordering anything. She was trying her best to lighten up my mood so she bought to us to this cafe and I was ruining our date.  "Okay fine, I'll have an espresso." I said after a complete minute of silence and staring. "Now that's what we are talking about."  I gave her a fainted smile to keep up her spirit that she was doing good on her part.  "So when are you going to rejoin your work? You're well aware that your savings are almost emptied." "I don't know. I'd first have to get a permission from the officers and try to convince them that I'm fine and no attacks have been plotted for me so I guess its time to get to my routine life. "  "Hmm-mm I see. Any progress on the case?" "No. Not yet, I think now my question list has a few more added to it. Ha-ha." "Nate, look I won't give you fake condolences like everything would go back to normal and all that s**t because nothing is ever going to be normal I know they were the only family you had but now it's time to heal, just get back to your routine and time will play it's part." She took a sip from her lemonade and sat back on her seat. "So when are you going for your permission process?" "Tomorrow morning. Would like to join?" "Tomorrow is no weekend sweetheart so unfortunately I'm working." "I get it." "Okay. Babe please do me a favor get your sexy ass back that used to literally pull all the boys' eyes. For god sake eat, drink and sleep. And by drink I mean to say water." We both let out a small laugh.  "Yea. I totally understand afterall I got live if I need to find my answers." I agreed. "Yasss. Healthy Nate sexy Nate." Tess cheered. We left for our own ways after our small happy hour of chit chat. I headed to my new apartment that was provided to me by the police under the same program as I wasn't allowed to live at the crime scene till the time they got it solved. As per the instructions of the officers I couldn't let out my address to anyone or bring any person to my new apartment as safety measures.  I put the keys in the lock and unlocked the door. Now no one knew where I lived in this entire universe except for my neighbors who had no idea that a living being even dwells here. This fact makes me feel even more lonely.    I think lonely meals and series are life now except for a few calls from my friends.   I turn up at the precinct to have a talk with my investigating officer the next morning, I'm dying to get back my normal life. I can't bare this life anymore it's depressing having to run here there.   "Good morning! Natalie." Officer Smith greets me sitting behind his desk where I'm awaiting his presence.    "Morning Officer Smith." I reply.   "So how may I help you?"    "Officer I'm here to ask your permission, as you know its been two months now that I'm drowning into my own agony and before I loose my mind and go into a complete state of depression and kill myself I'd like to back to my normal routine life."    "Oh-oh-okay I understand that it has not been easy for you but Ms. Christ you gotta understand the killer is still loose." He tries to explain with a bit hesitation scratching his forehead.   "I know officer. I'm well aware but were are the progress reports of my case, is there any? And to point the other thing he hasn't even tried to reach me. I mean there would have been any warning or danger signs given by him but there have been none. So I please request you let me go back to my work." I literally beg him I can't stand this torture anymore.   "Listen I don't know Natalie what to say at this situation though I'm the officer in charge I still don't have the authorities to take such a big decision and to be honest the case is not with us anymore."    "Oh! Has it been shifted to another precinct?" I ask him.   "Umm.. Noo.." His face shows a bit confusion as how to answer my question. Where these people hiding something? Like they don't want me to be a part of it. I raise my brow and give him a curious expression to elaborate his answer because I wasn't able to understand what the hell was happening.  Just then his phone rings to break the awkward situation well I won't deny the call had a great timing. Smith receives the call and gets up his chair showing a gesture of excusing himself for a minute and I nod in approval.   I just heard the conversation faintly, I guess the other side was a high ranking officer.   "Yes sir...yeah....she's here......are you sure about it sir?......Okay, will be there in a minute." And with that he cut the call.  Wait a minute were they referring to me, because that "She" was clearly me there was obviously no "She" present in the precinct accept for me after all I was an early bird out of excitement.    "Ms. Christ I'd like you take you somewhere."    "Like now?"   "Yes."   "But why?" Now I'm totally totally confused, what the hell was happening?   "Please, I'm not allowed to say anything, there are eyes on us." He points towards a camera just behind us on the wall completely out of my attention.   "Should I be scared."   "Not at all Ms. Christ. You're safe believe me."   "Fine." I pick my overcoat from the hand rest of my chair and follow officer Smith in his car.   After about a drive of half an hour we finally pull up outside a huge building and there I read the name "Central Intelligence Bureau" and my mind stands still.   I look at Smith and ask him, "How is the intelligence involved, should I know something that I don't?"  "Natalie you can rest your questions for a while. We are here only to get them answered."   We leave the car with a tons of questions jumping in my head, I take in my surroundings and curiosity fills my eye.
