Avyana Celestine Adelinda POV
I heard the moving of the bushes from the right side of the forest.
“Lady, I need your help, please,” the voice of a man said.
I instantly stopped running, and I looked at the path in front of me. I am sure if I run, this human will follow me.
I didn’t talk to him as it might ruin everything. This man will know everything that we are the beings who use magic, I cannot let that happen. I clenched my left fist that was holding the basket full of tulips.
“You left some flowers on the ground,” he added.
I felt so sorry about the flowers, I took a step backward to take them. However, I remembered the words from my great-grandmother again. I shook my head while I was trying to focus on my plan. Before I do something stupid, I need to get out of here.
‘Don’t ever trust the humans, they have weak hearts and they will backstab you once they feel that you are different. They will try to bring you down, and the worse thing is you will lose yourself. Humans only think about themselves, so you should never think about them as well,’ that’s what she said to me before.
“Please, I need a place to stay and I need your help to find my horse. I lost him in these dark and creepy trees,” the human said.
Even though a part of me wants to help him, I know that I should never do that. I should never make the mistake that my great-grandmother did before.
“Silēre avis,” I said.
I changed my form into small crows, it was a total of fifty crows. I put my spirit and body into the black creepy birds
I flew away from the human. I also hope that he will fear me.
This is my form; dark crows are my form.
This form of mine cannot be shown to my mother and the witches and wizards in my place. They will just fear me and the worst thing is I will be cursed by them.
My big and dark wings have already gone since I was ten years old, they evolved into small crows in which I fear the most before as I thought I was being cursed. It took me time to change my form into a human form. I was glad my Mom didn’t saw me, or else she will fear me too.
They fear the crows as the crows are very mysterious and never showed to them. The crows who have a human form were the first to live in this dark forest, therefore this is their territory. However, those crows let my ancestors live here without any complaints. Well, that’s the only thing that I know.
I am also wondering why do they fear me? I am a witch too with a crow form. Well, if I’ll ask my mother, would that help me change their perspective of me, or will it get worse?
I flew to the sky. My place is still far from here, and I am already exhausted as my power was gradually draining.
I decided to go down and get some rest. I stopped beside a big tree. My small crows form, formed into a human figure and it gradually changes into a human skin, which is my body. And my basket was still in my hand.
After I changed my form, I looked around me.
I found out that the sun was already setting, I think I have to go now before she kills me.
I started walking towards my house. I am glad that I already memorized the route to my place or else I would have lost by now.
I reached my house.
My dark and creepy house is beside a tall and creepy tree. I looked at the tree and I saw a crow above a long branch. The tree looked like dying because it doesn’t have any leaves.
The crow looked at me and I smiled at it.
“I wonder what the crow’s doing here?” I said to myself.
I waved my hand at the crow but it didn’t respond to me, instead, the crow made a sound.
“I guess, that’s your response to mine right?” I asked but it flew away.
I took a deep breath.
“I guess, he doesn’t like me just like how those kids bullied me before,” I said with a frown face.
I opened the gate and I went inside. I closed the gate first before walking towards the door to our living room.
As I reached the door, I opened it.
“I’m home, Mom,” I said.
Seconds passed but I didn’t hear her, instead, I heard an unpleasant sound of a pan. I immediately covered my right ear with my right hand.
“What are you doing, Mom?” I asked her.
I walked inside and I closed the door.
I put the basket of flowers on the couch first.
After that, I looked at her.
Mom was looking so busy while she was baking a purple cake. There were white creams on her face and her arm. Probably, those were the cake’s icing.
She looked at me with a smile on her face.
“I’m making a cake for your birthday, my dear,” she said.
She looked at her cake and she started putting icing above it.
“Mom, you don't have to do this. I’m happy that we are living together, that’s what I want in my life. And another thing that I want is to keep you healthy and happy. There’s no need to make birthday cakes for me, they are going to be waste at the end,” I said.
I walked closer to her and I looked at the cake. The cake was not prepared well; it doesn’t have equal sides. And the icing on top was perfectly ruined, some icing was not formed into a heart-shaped while the others were perfectly formed. However, it was very beautiful and meaningful for me.
“You didn’t tell me that today is your birthday. Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked me while she was pouting her lips.
“Mom, I just don’t want you to exhaust yourself.”
I hugged my mom tightly.
And she looked at me with a frown.
“I think the birthday cake is not perfect, I feel so bad for your birthday,” she said.
She took a deep breath. Now, it’s time to make her feel better. I don’t want my Mom to feel sad about my birthday and I appreciate the cake she baked.
I shook my head at her.
“No, Mom. The cake looks good and tasty. Look at the beautiful cake, made by my Mom,” I looked at the cake and I smiled. “Ugh, my saliva’s coming out. We should eat this for our dinner, I’m sure it will taste great,” I said and I winked at her.
I took the plate with the cake she baked. I put it on the table.
After that, I took two plates, spoons, and forks from the cabinet above the lavatory. I put her plate beside mine with its spoon and fork.
I looked at my Mom. I smiled at her to assure her that I like her cake. There was still a frown on her face, she still felt bad for the cake.
“Come on, Mom. I’m already hungry.”.
I touched her hand and I pulled her to sit on her chair.
We started eating her cake. It was very delicious and I loved it. Mom suddenly laughed at me, I looked at her and I put the icing on her face. She did the same thing on me too.
We were both happy on my birthday. How I wish this day would never end because I can see my Mom smiling for the first time.
