Brandon's POV.
I was tired of the way Elder Maeve kept dishing out orders and acting as though she was more powerful than the position that she held at the moment.
"Alpha Brandon!"
"I've spoken. If you have a problem with that, you'd better take it up with the moon goddess." I cut her off.
I had given her the audacity to speak to me however she pleased but I was revoking the rights now. "Desiree is already mine. If anybody doesn't like that they can come out and challenge me."
Leniency wasn't an option in our kindred. I needed to make sure that these people respected the air that she breathed in.
Desiree stood proudly, looking every inch like the woman that I had always wanted. Gone was the timid woman replaced with someone ready to take the world by storm,
"She cannot be allowed to have three mates. It is completely unheard of." Elder Harrison crackled like a whip. He was one of the lead antagonists that I had ever since I ascended the throne.
Grayson growled. "You do not speak to her in that manner."
Desiree chuckled softly. "Let him be with his myopic view of what should exist and what shouldn't."
Gasps filled the air, "I see, you've grown wings. This is not applicable here." Maeve spoke.
She was this close to losing her elder title.
"It is a shame that you think that I'm going to stand here and indulge your practices on what you think should be an ideal mating pair. News flash nobody knows what the next moment holds. You cannot box the moon goddess into something that fits your own prejudice." Zachary snapped.
He was the calmest person that I had met in a long time, and for him to snap at them, it meant that something was going on inside of him, and I wanted to witness the full-blown effect.
I wasn't going to stand here and watch them turn this into a circus. Neither of you understands the gravity of what you're doing. It makes sense now but it's going to cause more chaos than we have ever seen!" Elder Maeve exploded again.
"According to the pack customs, anyone who has such an anomaly is said to be thrown out." Elder Harrison recited.
He was desperately trying to make me mad and do something that I would not be proud of, but I was not going to give him that power.
From the look of things, she was probably leading the rest of the people into going on with the flow, forgetting that I held the utmost power.
I stepped up to the podium where my mate stood. "According to the pack customs, in the 19th century, it was said that a man had two mates." I countered his words.
Any attempt to pull down what I had with Desiree was going to end up in shambles because I wasn't going to let it thrive.
"We have to prove that this bond is real." Elder Mark spoke up.
I laughed at his silly attempt. It was easier for someone to tell me that I needed to fight an army of warriors than to listen to any of the bias that they had.
"Give me something more concrete, and maybe I would be inclined to listen to you, but if it is based on what you've mentioned, then you do not have any foundation." I insisted.
"Alpha Brandon, can we speak to the woman in question?" Elder Martin spoke up.
He was the quietest of the bunch but that didn't mean that he was dangerous. I knew them well enough to know that an organized crime would seem as though they had your back.
Most of them had endorsed Grayson instead of me, but I beat him fair and square, and that was why they respected me till tomorrow. "Nobody's going to be asking silly questions. If you don't think that the moon goddess has the right judgment, then there's no need for us to operate based on her customs!" I glowered, staring at everyone watching me.
Desiree signaled to me.
"My name is Desiree, in case everyone has forgotten due to the brouhaha springing up. I am mated to three men. I don't see how that is going to be any of your problem as long as the moon goddess is involved." She went straight to the jugular, crushing their egos.
Grayson swelled with pride.
Zachary on the other hand remained passive as he watched every one waiting for them to make a mistake and then he could bring out his sword behind his back.
He wasn't a guard for nothing.
"I love every one of them equally if that's what you are afraid of. The alpha is not going to be threatened by the rest of the males. Neither does it mean that he is not able to discharge his duties properly." She buttressed. "
"Sorry to bust your bubble, you have no experience leading the people. We are not only talking about the romantic part of your Bond." Elder Maeve cut her off. "Tell us how you I'm going to lead this people when you don't even have the strength required."
A direct hit to her personality, but was rewarded with nothing short of patience which I enjoyed anyway. "Giving off my strategy because I want to please the crowd isn't the smartest move that I would expect anyone in their right senses to take up." Desiree replied with even more confidence than necessary.
The elders didn't take it lightly, as they should have. "We are not asking for anything out of what is expected. You cannot come over here and promise that you're going to take care of people that you have no experience of doing. You need to be grounded before you can take up this position. It is for the powerful not the weak." Elder Harrison spat,
All three of us growled at the same time. "Enough, she's my mate and that's final."
"She's going to fight to earn the position." Elder Maeve insisted.
It was the pack custom.
Silence stretched over the trial room, breaths hanging as they waited for what the verdict would be.
"Then I will fight."
