Desiree’s POV
“Chop. Chop. Chop. Chop.” I heard loud noises, waking me up from the afternoon nap I had taken after the food Maya brought in.
I stretched my hands, trying to steady myself up from the fluffy bed; Brandon had specifically asked to be placed in my room.
Where the f**k was this noise coming from?
“Line out the necessary items needed.” I heard the familiar sharp voice rang in my head and at that instant, I knew who it was. Elder Maeve.
Okay, so what's going on here?
Because clearly it's starting to look like she was brought in here to frustrate my life ever since it was confirmed that I own three mates.
But can I really be blamed for it?
All I ever asked for, was a mate. ‘one’ f*****g mate from moon goddess. I pleaded, bawled my eyes out and when she finally answered my prayers, she flashed me three mates.
Three mates that I could feel the pull between.
Then why now should I take the fall of the moon goddess? Why should I be in a trial and why should I fight for three good mates?!
Well, maybe because they are tied to me. Their pull is now suddenly my pull.
‘Where the f**k was Lena.’ I wanted to cry out just with the thought of Lena not here beside me to help me carry half of my burden.
“Luna Desiree….” Maya started as she rushed in but the words were cut off almost immediately.
“What do you mean!” Elder Maeve's voice rang across the room, sending jolts into Maya's soul. “I asked you to open the darn door for me, instead, you rushed in to inform who? A woman who isn't fit to be called a Luna for the Alpha's?” She spat, veins popping out of my neck.
If questions aren't passed, Elder Maeve could visibly pass as a mother to the three Alpha's because what do you mean an Elder is hell bent on having a banter with me just because the moon goddess decided to mark me with three mates?
I could see Maya flinching at every one of her sharp words.
“As the Elder of this pack. The high- ranking Elder of this pack, I demote you from your job. You are n…”
“You wouldn't dare!” I flared up before I could even stop myself, already standing up to my feet.
Elder Maeve had a shocking expression like she couldn't believe her ears and eyes. “I…I wouldn't dare?” She stuttered and I scoffed.
“You heard me, clean. You wouldn't dare demote her from her job because she is not working for you! She is working for me and I am the only one who has the right to do whatever I like with her.” I spat.
Elder Maeve's step flattered but she quickly concealed it with a laugh. “Oh, really? This is why you have bewitched the three Alpha's into thinking that you are mates from the moon goddess.” She cursed. “You are just going to bring more calamity into this household.”
I exhaled out loud and rolled my eyes as I scurried to the door. I flung the door open and stretched my hands outside. “This is the way outside, in case you have forgotten your next step.” I said and that was when her jaw dropped, her hand tightening into a fist as though I had struck her really hard.
“I wouldn't have much banter with you anymore. But the council decided when you left that you are going to be trying Thirty Trail for the month in order to know if you are fit for the Luna title and also….I have decided to add two other concubines that would also be in competition with you.”
My mouth and face fell open as a disbelieving gasp escaped my lips. “What?”
No, no, no. This has to be a joke. So because I am mated to three prestigious people, I should try out thirty whole trails?
“W…what do you mean?” I asked, trying to understand what she said.
“Do you have a problem with what I have said? Huh, Luna Desiree? After all, you're the one going to be the Luna of the pack.”
Elder Maeve knew what she was doing but one thing I do not know was why she hated my guts and would rather tell herself lies about me even when it was glaring that I had no bad intentions on the Alpha's.
I clasped my hand behind my back, a smile tucking at the corner of my lips. “Okay,” I started, clearing my throat. If you want this, why don't I give it to you? “What does the Elder, the high- ranking Elder Maeve, want me to do for my first trial?” I asked and she glared at me, obviously annoyed at my answer.
“I have served…”
Oh, there goes the chant I have heard since I got in here.
“I have taken care of the Alpha's for years now and to my observant, the Alpha's like home made food and if a Luna is going to be at least the Pack Luna, she should be able to know her onions.”
I raised my brows at her, with clear understanding. “My first trail is to be a chef?”
“Yes,” She held her chin up proudly. “Do you have a problem with that?”
I stared intensely at Elder Maeve. What does she even take me for? A lady that her mother made the most delicacies wouldn't know her ways with food?
If anything, I would break bones with my cooking skills.
I peeped outside the room and before me was another room already opened with the maids bringing in and out utensils.
This woman had me fully planned out like an obstacle she couldn't wait to clear off the road and for real, I wanted to know more about Maeve and her ordeal in this Pack.
I held my chin high. “Shall we begin, Elder Maeve, ma?”
