Julian's POV As soon as I step into the elevator, my phone beeps with a message from Rita. "Hey, babe! How are you?" "I'm good, bae. How about you?" "Alright. While driving past your house last night, the lights were on. I don't know, you said you weren't around." "s**t!" I exclaim. I forgot to turn off the light on the porch last night. I just hope she doesn't get all suspicious. I text her back. "The housemaid probably forgot to turn off the lights last night." "Oh, alright. We're seeing tonight, right?" "Of course my love. Gotta go now, I'm at the office." "I love you!" "You, too." The elevator dings and the door slides open. I have never told Rita I love her. She's always the one saying it and I find it awkward. I don't know how to politely tell her that I don't love her. What I have for her is affection and nothing else. It's going to take a lot of time for me to fall in love with her but she doesn't seem to understand. The concept of telling people you love them has never been superficial to me. The only people I have told I love are my mother, grandmother, and my girlfriend from high school whom I loved to death and it was genuine. The women I've met since college haven't given me enough reason to love them and the highest form of feeling I've had for them is pure affection and that applies to Rita. "Good morning, sir," My secretary greets from where she's sitting. She gives me a seductive look and my eyes trail down the unbuttoned shirt she has on. I know she's doing this on purpose; showing me her cleavage. I enjoy looking at it though. I want her to keep trying. I want her to push me hard enough to want to have s*x with her on my office desk. She stands to her feet and walks towards me in her heels. She has my iPad in her hand and she swipes it before handing it over to me. "We have a meeting by ten and your mother called this morning to tell me that you should be home for dinner. She has been trying your number to no avail." I am more interested in the meeting we have by ten than my mother who wants me home tonight for some reason I have no idea about. I unlock the door to my office with my electronic card and enter. I am welcomed by the nicely scented atmosphere, all thanks to the diffuser that has been installed on the four corners of the room. Taking my seat, I begin to work and prepare for the meeting properly. The meeting is over by eleven thirty. Earlier than normal. Our meetings usually take hours and run through lunch break but today was smooth. The client we had over didn't give us many problems. I don't even wait for a lunch break. As soon as I step out of the board room, I go into my office and pick up my car keys before locking my door and informing my secretary to tell anyone who asks about me that I am unavailable. She nods and I leave for lunch. — Jocelyn's POV; "Jane, what dress do you think would be suitable for this job I am about to take?" Jocelyn, from where she's seated, twists on her seat and gives me a look. She doesn't have to bother about standing on her feet. "Not one of those expensive dresses you own. Wear something casual and conservative. Like a plain dress?" "I have lots of plain dresses, Jane," I say in a confused tone. "Exactly. Wear the worst of them all." "That's going to suck," I say as I open my closet and pick out the worst of all the dresses I have. It's a dull brown gown with a fringed hem. Jane nods in approval. "Yes, exactly. You're applying as a maid. You should dress minimally. If you dress like you do when looking for jobs in top companies, you won't be taken seriously." "I think that's ridiculous." "It's true. Why would you dress like you own a penthouse in New York when you're applying for the post of housemaid? Your employee would think you're well-to-do and make your pay less. But if you dress like you're a college dropout, there might be considerations in your payment." That has to be one of the weirdest theories I've ever heard in my whole life. Not even the theories my lecturer in engineering mathematics back in college came close to hers. But I see her point. I carefully lay the dress on the bed before going into the bathroom to take a bath. I wash my hair and step out of the bathroom before performing the necessary rituals. The dress looks nice on me and I feel like I jumped out of an eighties movie. "That's a very simple dress. It's beautiful." Jane comments. "Thank you. So what do I wear on my feet?" "A pair of flats. Preferably brown." I snort. "I see that you want me dressed like a slave today, huh?" "You're doing that. Except you're getting paid for your services." I feel a pang of shame as she says that. I know she means no harm but I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that I will be working as a maid real soon. But I need to hear her words and put on a brown shoe and once I'm done, Jane claps. "You look presentable. The lady is going to accept you real fast." "I think she already did so yesterday. She wouldn't have asked me to work for her if she didn't want me." Jane nods and stands to her feet. I'll be taking my leave. I'd come back later. When you return so I can say my last farewell. I smile at her. "Thank you for keeping me company." "It's nothing, Jocelyn," Jane said and slipped out of the door.
