Jocelyn's POV
Nobody seems to be interested in what I have to say and my confidence is starting to waver. But my eyes find Tiffany and Rosá standing by the table. They give me a look of approval and I feel a little of my confidence return.
"I understand that you're not in any way interested in whatever I'm talking about but I'd really appreciate it if you all listened to me. "
"Like I asked, are we ready to do something to blow off the steam tonight?!"
A few yeses surfaced from the crowd. Not in any way encouraging but I know I had to carry on with this game.
"I want everyone to stand apart from their partner. If you're not together, stand together with your partner or someone you'd want to be your partner!"
Everyone looks at one another in confusion at first before doing as I say. It's uncomfortable at first but in no time, everyone is standing with a partner.
My eyes darts to Julian and I see Rita talking to him while he acts nonchalant. She says something and he sighs before following after her. My eyes moves to the other men, which had not employed me even if I had the best resume and CV in the whole batch. They're all standing with their girlfriends, save for one.
Don't they recognize me?
They probably don't. I mean, they see a lot of faces and encounter lots of experiences everyday so it'd be hard for them to recognize me. But there's this uncomfortable feeling they give me. Their presence doesn't hold comfort of any sorts.
But I know that I have to be confident before I can face these people. Taking a deep breath, I continue speaking.
"We can't waste the whole time playing a game and the main purpose for this is to make everyone loosen up and enjoy the party. So I'll be throwing a few questions to answer about your partner. If you get it, you get to eat from their hands and if you don't..."
I look around again to see everyone listening attentively. I glance at Julian to see that he's watching me with careful eyes. Tiffany is smiling at me and I nod.
"... You go on your knees and apologize to them for not knowing that information about them," Everyone begins to laugh and murmur to each other. A few people even disagree but I know they're all ready for this challenge.
"I hope we're all ready?"
People nod in approval. They seem to be.
The first couple that catches my eyes are a latina couple. The lady standing beside the man is so beautiful. She's tall, slender with an hourglass figure and I have caught quite a few men staring at her in wonder.
So I step down and smile at her. She looks so nervous but she's not the one I'm coming for. I turn to her partner and he immediately bursts into laughter. He didn't see it coming.
"What's your name?"
"Andrés," He replies in his thick, suave voice.
"Alright, Andrés," I reply, trying to pronounce his name correctly. "What's your girlfriend's Zodiac sign?"
Everyone seems to enjoy it because I can hear the voices of people talking in excited tones. After handing over the mic to him, my eyes shifts to Julian again. The woman beside him is talking in an excited tone. But he seems to only listen to her because he doesn't want her to be offended.
"Uhm," Andrés guesses and looks at his girlfriend. It's obvious that he has no idea what her sign is. "I'm not really a fan of zodiacs so I don't really know. But I'm guessing Mia's a Taurus since she was born on the third of march,"
The population of people that groan are ladies, both old and young. The men look quite confused.
Taking the mic from him, I hand it over to Mia who had been covering her face. "You're wrong, Mi amor. I'm Pisces,"
Everyone begins to laugh. I take the mic from her. "Andrés, do the needful,"
Everyone starts to draw close so they can see how he takes his bow. Andrés is smiling. A lot of ladies are cooing as he is an attractive man and when he goes on his knees, he takes her hand and places a slow kiss. The whole room erupts into an ovation.
By now, I'm laughing to the point of tears. This is just the beginning and I'm having so much fun.
Suddenly, an idea strikes me and I smile wickedly. I move to the next couple. They're a black couple, looking like they've been married for a very long time.
The wife is a tall woman, reminding me of a stallion. She looks athletic and so does her husband.
I decided that this time, I'd hand the mic over to the wife. "What's your name, ma'am?"
"Madeline," She replies with a smile.
"Madeline, what meal makes your husband go crazy? You just have to mention the one that tops the list."
"Chicken spareribs," She says immediately without having to wait.
Before I hand the mic over to the husband, he nods his head and walks over to the table at the other side of the room where he picks up a chunk of meat with a toothpick. He comes back and gently puts it into her mouth.
The party is getting fun as time goes on and I decide that the last two people I'd be asking are Julian and one of the friends who had asked me to sleep with me without getting a job.
I can feel my heart thumping in my ribcage as I walk to the other side of the room where he's standing with his girlfriend. I see that she's beckoning me to come over to them.
"What's your name?" I ask.
"Damien," He replies while studying me. He's probably trying to recollect where he saw me.
"What flowers does she love the most?"
He looks at his girlfriend in confusion. He's probably not going to say something correct. He shrugs and speaks into the mic. "I have no idea, she's not my girlfriend."
A few collective boos are heard.
The lady beside him blushes in embarrassment and I shrug at her while giving her an apologetic look.
Then I turn onto the next and the last couple.
