Julian's POV Who the hell does she think she is to talk to me like some rando? I'm sure she has forgotten that I can influence my mother's decision in firing her. I have never been angry like this my whole life and what's more annoying is that a woman I hate and detest talked down to me. I'll make sure she regrets it. As I walk back to the party, I bump into Adelaide. "Julian, your mother has been looking for you." Ignoring what she says, I say instead. "Why didn't you tell me that woman was working for my mother?" She frowns in confusion. "I didn't think it was relevant," "You didn't think about telling me that some woman who would have been capable of taking something precious from my mother was working for her? Heck, they're even best of friends now?!" "Calm down, Julian," Adelaide replies and tries to take my hands but I back away from her. "Jocelyn is a good woman. I've told you times without numbers, stop this. Stop projecting. Yes, a black woman took your father away but she is the same as other women. If it had been a white woman, would you have hated your race?" "I don't have an answer to that, Adelaide. I have to go now," "Don't cause too much trouble!" She calls after me. "I don't know about that," Getting to the party, I find my mother talking with Jamal, Davin and Damien. They all seem angry and like they're complaining to her. As I draw closer to them, I hear what Davin says. "Why the hell would you allow such a woman to organize this party? She turned it to something else few minutes ago, asking Julian if he is racist or not," Once they see me approaching, all their eyes shift to me and my mother turns to see me. She has a helpless look on. "I'm really sorry, honey. I know it was a sensitive topic for you but trust me, she didn't mean it that way," Laughing, I shake my head. "Are you sure she didn't, mother? She looked like she was holding something against me!" My mother takes my hand. "Please, can we pause this till after the party. It already turned out perfect and I don't want this to be ruined, okay?" I jerk my hands off her hold and I notice her face fall immediately. I don't really care but I'm just really angry and I need a drink. That's all that'll calm me down. Leaving their midst, I walk in the direction of the mini bar where I pour myself a full glass of brandy. I stand at a place, watching and surveying and my eyes search around for one tall, slender woman. Rita sees me and waves at me but I turn immediately. I hope she understands that I don't want to talk to her. Thirty minutes and several glasses later, I see a familiar woman walking towards the staircase. I think we have a score to settle. — Jocelyn's POV The party is almost over and I am glad it turned out well even if there were tense moments and irregularities. I'm really tired and Tiffany has asked me to go upstairs and rest till the party's over. We'd start cleaning everywhere tomorrow. While I talked to a few guests who were interested in my ideas and wanted to know what I studied, I saw Leela talking to the four men who were the bane of my existence at one point in my life and they all seemed agitated. Then Julian came into the book. His mother tried to talk to him but he countered and then Leela said something that made him walk away angrily and towards the bar. Climbing up the steps, I realize that I am really tired. I really need to sleep and stretch my whole body as I have been working for several days. But as I am unlocking my room, I hear sounds of irregular footsteps behind me. When I turn to see who it is, I realize that it's Julian. I crease my brow in confusion. What is he doing here? He's probably going to his room to sleep since he's drunk so I push my door open and enter my room, thinking of nothing but my bed. His legs stick through the threshold when I want to shut my door and I look up at him in confusion and growing anger. "What do you want?" I ask. He leans his lower arm on the door with one hand on his hip for support. "We need to talk," "There's nothing to talk about." I say and push the door hard but he's strong enough to push it harder and this causes me to stagger backwards with wide eyes. "What are you doing?!" "Trying to talk," He says gently and closes the door behind him. "You're a stubborn woman. Worse than any I have ever met," I blush in anger. What gives him the right to barge into my room? I have to stand my ground. "Leave my room this instant!" "Last time I checked, this house belongs to my mother and I am her son. I'll do whatever pleases me." He says and laughs and he comes into the room. His footsteps are irregular but at least, he knows how to walk properly. "You act like a child, Julian. You act like a little boy who has been spoiled by their parents and has no sense of respect! Why would you barge into my room and try to force your stupid authority on me?!" "I only want to talk. If you're going to listen, that would be better." I stand tall and glare up at him. He's taller than I am but I will not be intimidated. "Look, I might look like I am powerless but I promise you I am not. You refused to give me a job because of my race, not minding that my CV was more than enough to get me a high rank in your company. You and your arrogant friends! What else do you want from me?!" When he grabs me roughly by the chin, I whimper. "You're going to have a seat and listen to what I have to tell you!" Shaking my head and glaring at him, I spit. "No!"
