Jocelyn's POV
"I'll miss you, Jocelyn," Rosá says as she draws close to me and hands me my luggage. "I know I've not been particularly friendly around you but I will greatly miss you. You brought light into this house hold and made Leela happy,"
"That's why she likes you so much. I don't know why she's doing this," Tiffany chips in.
I sigh. "She probably has her reasons. I'm not going to lie, she was so good to me and if she doesn't want me here again, she's probably pushing me off to somewhere better."
Suddenly, Rosá starts sniffling. She quickly takes out her handkerchief and blows her nose. Tiffany looks at her in shock. I give her the same look, too. Rosá crying? That's unusual.
"I don't want you to leave but I also want you to leave because you deserve better! You deserve better than being in the kitchen with us, making dinner."
My heart goes out to her. I go ahead to pull her soft, plump body into mine. Rubbing her back, I say. "I'll visit one day. You don't have to cry, Rosá. You're going to make me cry, too."
Rosá nods and pulls away. She wipes her nose and sniffs. "I won't cry anymore, I promise. I'll call you from time to time."
I smile at them. Tiffany steps forward. "You, don't let some dumb dude treat you like trash. You know your worth; you're a stubborn, courageous woman who fears no one and no matter what adversity you experience, you'd always scale through. I trust you."
We exchange our final byes before I start wheeling my stuff to the gates. I take a last look at the house, smiling and hoping things go well for Leela. Honestly, I have nothing against her. I just think Julian is shitty and needs therapy so he can heal.
The gate man is shocked when he sees me with my stuff and when he asks me, I tell him I'm leaving for good. He expresses his deep sadness and wishes me good luck.
As soon as the gates creak shut, I close that chapter of my life.
I'm waiting for the Uber I ordered about thirty minutes ago when I hear the sound of an engine revving up and the opening of gates. I know who it is so I don't bother turning.
Somehow, Julian always looks for a way to rile me up. He cruises to a halt before me and winds down his tinted windows.
"Look who's stranded," He joked. "Want a ride?"
Facing him full on, I make sure he sees the disgust on my face. "You're acting like a spoiled high school kid with Daddy issues. Run along. "
He doesn't say anything but I see the flash of anger in his eyes as he glares at me and zooms off.
—
Finally, my Uber arrives. The driver apologizes for coming in late while he puts my stuff in the car trunk. I give him directions and I sit back and close my eyes.
I can't wait to be back in my apartment.
.....
"Ma'am?" A voice comes and my eyes cracks open. It's the Uber driver and he's no longer driving. I am about to ask him why he stopped when I see a familiar building before me. I feel relief wash over me as I unlock the car door.
"I'm sorry. I slept off."
The driver smiles. "You're probably tired."
"Yes, I am." I reply and quickly make my payment before proceeding to the back of the car.
He opens his trunk and I quickly take out my stuff before shutting the car trunk and signaling for him to drive off.
....
"Phew! Feels good to be back home, man. Jane would be surprised," I say and chuckle to myself as I begin to wheel my heavy luggages towards the elevator. I know the elevator is faulty and anything can happen anytime but I can't stress myself to climb the steps.
The first thing I notice when I step into the elevator is the smooth beep and opening of the door. There was no creaking sound and the whole dynamic was very smooth.
"It has been fixed!" I squeal. This has to be one of the best things to happen to this apartment building. I might write the owner a letter expressing my appreciation with a bottle of wine attached to it.
When I get out of the elevator, I'm smiling like life has been good to me. I walk past Jane's door, making a mental note to check on her as soon as I am settled.
When I get to my door, I let out a huge sigh of relief. I place my luggage in front of my door and lean back against the wall to take a breather because I've been moving around for the whole of today.
I should probably go and say a quick hi to Jane so I don't get to come out again. I'm sure I'd pass out once I'm settled in.
I know my stuff is safe here so I don't bother about it. Walking back three doors away, I knock on her door with the familia inscription of one of her favorite quotes about chakras. I smile fondly, remembering how she talks about energies.
I knock twice on her door before a man opens the door. I don't think I've seen him before.
"Hi," I greet with a polite smile. "Is Jane in?"
"Yes, she is." He replies. "Want me to get him for you?"
"Yeah. Tell her it's Jocelyn."
But she's already standing behind him. She pushes past him and engulfs me in a hug. "I've missed you!"
"I have, too."
When she pulls away, she gives me a weird look. "Why are you back? It's the weekend and you're supposed to be working instead of visiting."
I scratch my head. "Err... That's not the case now. I got fired."
Her eyes widen. "What?"
"You heard me right."
Jane immediately pulls my hand and begins to pull me towards my apartment door. She tells the man she'd be back shortly and he closes the door.
"Let's talk about this when you're settled. I'll be with you for sometime."
I smile at her. "You're being so sweet to me."
"And you're not crying." She says sternly.
I shrug and take out my keys. "I'm trying not to be affected by it."
I bring the key to the keyhole but it doesn't fit. Thinking I must have turned the wrong side, I turn it to the other side but it still doesn't fit in.
I try a few more times and when I bend to look at the lock, I realize that it has bebe changed. This is a chrome lock.
"Did I just get locked out of my apartment?"
