JOCELYN'S POV
Jane has been watching me all day. I lost every appetite to eat and when I was even served food, I politely told her I wasn't hungry.
"Jocelyn," She begins as she takes a seat beside me. "Can you stay with me for a while? I'll hurry my brother up and make him leave,"
I smile. I don't know but I hate being helped. I know Jane is a really nice person but I can't stay with her. I'd rather stay in the streets than let her help me and that's how I am.
Turning to her, I return her smile. "I really appreciate the gesture, Jane, but I'll always figure things out. I'll always find my way around,"
"Your parents?" She asks.
I shrug. I don't have to tell her I have serious issues with my parents. "Uhm, maybe. Maybe not. But trust me, I'll find my way around."
"When are you leaving?" Jane asks. Her face is filled with worry and pity and sympathy and that's what I hate the most. If I remain here for the rest of the night, she's going to keep looking and treating me that way.
"Tonight."
Jane's eyes widened in surprise. "Tonight?! Isn't it too fast? You can stay here for a few days and maybe find your way around and figure things out like you said,"
I do not want to inconvenience her and I also do not want to tell her this so I just smoke. "I'll find my way around tonight. I assure you. Just trust me,"
Jane still looks worried and honestly, it makes me really uncomfortable. I stand to my feet and hike my purse to my shoulder.
"I'll take my leave now that it's still early. Don't want to be going around in the dark,"
Jane stands to her feet and follows after me. Once I'm out of her apartment, she goes with me to the front of my door where my luggages is. She helps me roll it to the elevator and we're together throughout the ride. I know she wants to say a lot of things but she's keeping quiet.
When we finally get to the last floor, we walk through the lobby and my eyes dart to the property Manager's office. I wish I could drive something through the glass and destroy that office. Infact, I want to burn this building to the ground. I have never hated a place like this in a matter of minutes.
That's when I started to realize that Jamal is evil. How the hell does he build an apartment building as large as this with tiny rooms just because he wants to get so much money from this building? As rich as he is, he can't even make a small apartment spacious and comfortable enough.
I hold onto that one reason and as I leave the lobby, I don't feel bad for being thrown out.
We're standing on the walkway and waiting for a cab. Jane then turns to me.
"Jocelyn,"
"Yeah?"
"Are you sure?"
"You've asked me this several times. I'm serious."
Jane sighed and nodded. "Alright. I'm going to miss you badly, Jocelyn."
Just then, I hear the sound of a car coming towards us and I immediately flag it down. Luckily enough, it's a taxi and I turn to hug Jane immediately.
"I'll miss you too, Jane."
The driver opens his trunk and we put all of my luggages in before it is locked.
Before I get into the cab, Jane calls. "Don't forget to call me!"
"I won't." Then I shut the door with a thud.
"Where to, ma'am?" The old cab driver asks politely.
That's true. Where the f**k am I even going to?
I have no idea. There's nowhere for me to go and I can't go back to my parent's house. f**k.
He's still looking at me and waiting for an answer and he seems impatient now that I am saying nothing.
"Uhm, Downtown. "
"Where exactly?"
"Just downtown. Drop me anywhere. I'll find my way around."
The man nods and starts driving. Throughout the whole drive, all I could think about was how my life had changed in just one day. How the hell did that happen?
From having s*x with the man I hate most to being fired by his mother to being thrown out of my house. It sounds comically funny. Something that can only happen in a movie.
Leaning on the car window, I watch as the car drives past brightly lit stores, cinemas, restaurants and cafes till it forms a whole spectrum of colors and that's when I fall asleep.
"Ma'am," I feel a tap on my shoulder and immediately jolt awake. Looking around me, I realize by the crowded streets that we have reached Downtown.
"I'm really sorry," I apologize to the driver but he only nods and says.
"It's fine. You seem tired. You should get well rested when you get home,"
I nod at him. "I will,"
"Are you a student?"
I smile at him but I don't say anything as I get out of my car. He opens the car trunk and I take out all of my luggages with great difficulty.
Once he drives off, I feel a wave of fear wash over me.
Where do I go from here?
I have no friends living around here. All my friends are out of the state or living in Michigan.
As I look around, my eyes land on a dark, lonely alleyway across the street and without thinking, I begin to wheel my luggages towards the alleyway. I know I'd have to come back to get the rest and that's what I do.
Once I'm done crossing my luggages, I stand at the entrance of the alleyway to see if anyone's there.
No single soul.
I make sure my luggages is hidden from sight to avoid being stolen. I go deep into the alley.
With the aid of my torch, I look around for somewhere to shelter myself for tonight. I'm not going to beg some stranger to accommodate me.
Just then, my phone's torch reflects on something. It's amber colored and it looks like the lights from a vehicle. I hurry towards it.
It's a car.
A jeep.
