Chapter Twenty five

1038 Words
The night is going surprisingly well, and I find Liam really interesting. "So, what's your favourite way to spend a Friday night?" Liam leans closer, curiosity glinting in his eyes. "I usually hide out with a book," I shrug, a smile creeping onto my lips. "But tonight's definitely a first." "Books can't compete with sunsets and bonfires," he counters, a teasing grin forming. "I suppose you've got a point there," I laugh, feeling warmth spread through me. I turn and hear familiar voices , the triplets!!! God, the last thing I need is them and their groupies ruining my night. Liam follows my gaze, eyebrows raised. "Your friends?" "Not exactly," I mutter, already bracing myself. The triplets saunter in, laughter spilling from their lips, their presence a jarring contrast to the warmth of the bonfire. "Look who decided to join the fun," Miles cracks, spotting me. "I think we should leave," i say nervously. Liam doesn't say anything he just shuffles closer and puts his arm around me, I feel a sense of comfort. "Mauve, we thought you vanished," Jax calls, swaggering over with the others. "Didn't vanish, just hid from the chaos," I reply, crossing my arms. Liam's grip tightens slightly. "Looks like I'm not the only one who enjoys a little peace." Brett shoots me an unreadable look. I feel their eyes on me the whole time I'm sitting here, I start to feel uncomfortable. Liam seems to notice the shift in my mood. "Everything alright?" he asks, his gaze locked onto mine, searching for reassurance. I force a smile, but it feels weak. "Just the usual suspects." He huffs. "Let them stare. You're here to enjoy yourself." "Right," I mutter, but the tension lingers. "Would you prefer to go somewhere quieter?" He asks , "Liam, as tempting as that sounds, I'd rather not give them a reason to compound their judgement," I reply, my gaze flicking to the triplets. "Then let's make them regret bothering us." He leans in, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "What do you have in mind?" I ask, intrigued despite my nerves. He nods toward the music, a smirk twisting his lips. "How about we show them how to dance?" I burst out laughing, the tension fading slightly. "You think I'm ready for that?" " I literally have two left feet."Doesn't matter," he counters, a playful spark igniting in his eyes. He stands, pulling me up with him. "The important part is to have fun." "I'm not so sure about this," I reply, glancing back at the triplets, their laughter ringing in my ears. He pulls me in time with the music, and he just has a way of making me feel comfortable. The beat thumps through the air, and I can't help but sway with it. "See? You've got this!" Liam grins, spinning me around. Suddenly, laughter erupts from the triplets, cutting through the moment. "Look at her now," Brett sneers, arms crossed. As if Liam has some sort of super hearing, he glares. With a sudden movement, he swings me in a motion and dips down and kisses me. The world narrows to just his lips on mine, the heat of the bonfire flickering behind us. Laughter fades into the background, leaving only the thud of my heart. "Now that's how you distract a crowd," he grins, eyes sparkling with mischief. Omg, omg, omg, did this really just happen. I stumble back, breathless, heart racing as I catch the glances of the triplets, their expressions frozen in surprise. "Did you just kiss her?" Brett blinks, disbelief painting his features. Liam meets his gaze, unyielding. "Yeah, and I'd do it again." I feel the tension rising, so I grab Liams hand and head over to the water. The cool waves lap at my ankles as we step closer to the edge, laughter trailing behind us. "How deep does it get?" I glance back at him, excitement mingling with nervousness. "Deep enough to make a splash! You should join me here tomorrow, and I will show you," I chuckle, feeling a rush of excitement. "Is that a challenge?" He grins, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief. "Absolutely. Bet you won't dare." I glance at the waves, then back at his confident smile. "I'll take that bet." "Prepare to be soaked," he laughs, pulling me closer to the water's edge. Before I can react, he lunges, splashing icy waves against my legs. "Hey!" I squeal, shivering as droplets catch the light. Rose and Lyle join us at the water's edge, their laughter ringing out. "Looks like the party's moved to the lake," Rose shouts, an amused grin stretching across her face. Liam splashes me again, water spraying onto Rose, who feigns annoyance. "Careful, or I'll retaliate!" "Bring it on!" he challenges, spinning back towards the waves. The night breathes with laughter, a perfect escape from the chaos of the past. "So you two look like you're having a good evening," she winks at me " Yes, until the three musketeers turned up." I roll my eyes "Sorry, Mauve, their my mates. I couldn't not include them," Lyle says sheepishly. I shoot him a glare but can't hide my smirk. "Next time, maybe pick more charming friends," I tease, crossing my arms. Rose bumps my shoulder, grinning. "Just embrace the chaos, Mauve. We might as well have fun while we can." The night is coming to the end and surprisingly I've had a really nice time. Liam tosses another splash of water my way, laughter bubbling up between us. "Okay, okay, truce!" I hold up my hands, soaked and shivering yet grinning. "Fine, but only because I want to see you again." He grins. We head towards the carpark , and all I feel is eyes on me , but for once, I really don't care. He opens the car door for me , but before I can get in, he turns me and kisses me again. "Until tomorrow," he winks and shuts the door. As the car pulls away, laughter and music fade into the distance, wrapping me in a cocoon of warmth. I trace my fingers over my lips, still tingling from his kiss, thoughts swirling around the promise of tomorrow.
