The walk back to the house was quiet, the kind of silence that felt heavy but not uncomfortable. Jax’s presence was steady beside me, his hands shoved deep into his pockets as we strolled along the gravel path. The gardens around us were lush, the scent of wisteria hanging in the air, its purple blooms cascading like waterfalls over the trellises. It felt almost surreal, like I’d stepped into a dream.
