Chapter Fifteen A Visit from an Old Friend The doorbell rang while Kevin was still dressed in only his robe and boxers. His head jolted up from the crossword puzzle that had occupied him all morning. Diane smiled at his surprise and rose. She had slipped away after breakfast and dressed without him noticing. She had him pinned at the back half of the table, and she left the sun room with him desperately calling to her, “Diane, I’m not dressed.” He called her name louder, his voice booming through the house, but when she reached the front door and pulled it open, he went quiet. Monica stepped inside and hugged Diane. She drew away with her hands gently squeezing Diane’s arms, as if the end of the hug had come only from a desire to look her over.
