Chapter 6

On the dining table. Sophie smiled gently and lightly, “Lily, did you sleep well last night?” Lily raises her eyes, and what catches her eyes is a bright and delicate face with skin as delicate as porcelain; even she, a girl, can’t take her eyes off of it when she looks at it. How could anyone be this beautiful? Her heart stuttered, and she returned dryly. “Thank you sister Xuan for your concern, I slept quite well last night.” In reality, her room was not far from her brother’s master bedroom; so angry that she couldn’t sleep, she cursed Sophie hundreds of times in her heart. She knew the woman was doing it on purpose! But being new to the city and under a roof, she didn’t dare to act too obvious. “Well, I’m relieved then.” Sophie took a sip of milk, “By the way, you can just call me sister-in-law.” Lily pretended to be confused, “But Aunt Xu said that you and Brother Alex didn’t have a marriage license.” “I don’t think it’s appropriate to call you sister-in-law.” She pretended to be innocent and pure on the surface, but secretly reminded the other party that she was an impostor. But how could a green tea w***e like Sophie not see what the little girl was thinking. She snickered inwardly, but her face showed a hurt expression as she looked at the man in the main seat for help. Alex received her gaze and finally spoke, “Lily, Sophie is your sister-in-law.” Sophie hooked her lips without a trace. Lily was slightly stunned; those big eyes immediately covered with a layer of water mist, then she smiled docilely, “Okay, I’ll listen to my brother.” After saying that, she looked towards Sophie, her voice was loud and clear: “Sister-in-law is good.” “That’s a good boy.” Sophie softly said, “Lily, if you’re not used to being called sister-in-law, you can continue to be called sister, it’s just a title anyway.” Lily: “......” What the hell? Obviously she was the one who counted on the name calling in the beginning; how come she’s the generous one now instead? Lily was trying to get back into the game. Outside the restaurant, there was a rush of “da-da-da-da-da” footsteps. It was followed by the cry of the childcare worker. “Young master, don’t run so fast, be careful of falling ......” Before the words fell, a small figure scurried into the dining room, holding a piece of paper tightly in his arms. “Daddy!” Teddy’s eyes lit up and he rushed over like a little cannonball, pouncing into his dad’s arms. Alex reacted quickly and immediately caught the pouncing little body. Teddy was just about to offer his drawing when he looked up and noticed his strange sister and asked suspiciously, “Daddy, who is this sister?” Alex: “She’s a friend of Daddy’s, you can call her Sister Lily.” Teddy milkily shouts, “Good morning, Sister Lily.” Lily blushed and quickly corrected, “No, you can’t call me that.” “I’m your father’s sister, you should call your aunt, okay?” “Huh?” Teddy looked confused and scratched his head, “Dad, is it sister, or aunt?” Alex gave Lily a look, “Then you can call her Aunt Lily.” “Okay.” Teddy shouted again, “Aunt Lily, good morning.” “Eh.” Lily barely managed to squeeze out a smile, “Teddy, good morning.” After the little guy finished his task, he held up the drawing paper in his hand as if offering a treasure, “Daddy, look, I drew this for you!” “Teddy drew this?” Alex asked softly as he took the drawing. On the drawing paper were several lines scribbled in colored crayons. At the top were three little people, holding hands, with a lawn and sun in the background. Teddy excitedly explained, “Yes, this is a family picture I drew!” “This is Daddy, this is Mommy, and Teddy!” he pointed to the lines on the drawing. Alex touched somewhere in his chest and looked down at the little guy in his arms. The little guy tilted his face up to look at him, his big black grape-like eyes full of joy and anticipation. “Daddy, did I draw well?” Alex’s eyebrows softened a few points, “Teddy, the drawing is good.” Sophie watched the interaction between father and son with gentle eyes and a light smile on her lips. Lily looked at a little baby who was almost a mold of her brother and instantly had mixed feelings. What a beautiful, adorable baby; how wonderful it would have been if she had given birth. “Daddy, I want to eat this.” Teddy sat in his dad’s arms and pointed to the sandwich on the table. “Good.” Alex’s voice was doting as he cut a small piece of the sandwich and fed it to the little one’s mouth. Sophie smiled, “Honey, you’re spoiling him too much, let him eat by himself.” “Once in a while is okay.” Alex happily fed the little guy. “......” Lily’s chest prickled; her fingers clenched tightly around her knife and fork, her stomach churning with acid. Heh, husband called quite hot; what a cozy family of three. That title, that cozy picture should have belonged to her. Why did her brother become like this? Lily’s gaze drifted involuntarily to Alex. He was cutting his steak with his head down; the profile of his side face as perfect as a sculpture, and there was tenderness between his brows and eyes. Unfortunately, this tenderness was not for her. Lily’s mind involuntarily drifted back to the scene when she first met her brother. That day, she and her dad went out to sea in a small fishing boat as usual. “Try that sea today.” Thomas’ rough fingers pointed in the southeast direction, “Yesterday Uncle’s family’s boat caught a lot of fish there.” Lily skillfully adjusted her course as the diesel engine made a regular roar. At the age of nineteen, she had already followed her father out fishing for many years, and was familiar with the waters. Arriving at the destination. She stood at the bow of the boat, her eyes scanning the sea, looking for fish, when she suddenly swept over a floating object in the distance. “Dad, there seems to be something over there!” She pointed to the smudge of float. Thomas squinted his eyes as he peered over and his face changed, “Not good! It’s a person!” “Really?” Lily’s heart clenched violently as she quickly adjusted her course and kept getting closer. As the distance shortened, she finally saw that it was indeed a person. And it was a young man, wearing a life jacket, floating on his back on the surface of the sea. His face was as pale as paper, his eyes were tightly closed, and only his slightly heaving chest proved that he was still alive. “Dad, he’s alive! We have to save him!” Lily turned her head to her father with an anxious look on her face. Thomas’ brow was furrowed, clearly concerned. “Who knows what kind of person this person is? If it’s a stowaway or a fugitive, then we’re in danger.” Lily looked at the man’s face. It was pale and his hair was wet against his forehead, but it didn’t detract from his handsomeness. This was the most handsome man she had seen in nineteen years, more handsome than a movie star on TV. “Dad! He doesn’t look like a bad guy; let’s save him.” Lily folded her arms and begged.
