After concluding his speech about the deaths of Emmett Dalton and Jimmy McDaniels, Melvin Purvis took questions from the reporters who filled the room. “How many members of the Emmett Dalton Gang are still at large?” asked one. Melvin said, “We’re not sure. There may be one man still out there, there may be two. We have no knowledge at this time as to who the other members of Emmett Dalton’s gang were.” Tom Pickett had a hell of a time transferring himself out of the automobile into his wheelchair without assistance.
