Chapter 8Rob With nothing else to do, Rob's mind worked all afternoon. Alex was sleeping, sitting on a chair with her head resting on her arms, and he'd taken his time to feel and comb her hair meantime. It was soft and smelled faintly of roses and something else. He could get used to seeing it on his pillow. She hadn't talked much about how she arrived in the U.S. or why, and Rob felt it was still an open wound, so he didn't ask. All he gathered was that it had been a mistake, she worked in a cleaning crew, and soon would be able to buy a ticket back home.
