HEALING AT HOME

807 Words
Settling into her father’s house, Katrina felt a wave of heavy emotions wash over her as she lay in bed, reflecting on moving away from the city and her new relationship status. Being in her father’s house brought back fond memories of their sweet love and how it all began. She gazed at her wardrobe and recalled the times they played "hide and seek" and how he would bring her beautiful stones from the river she loved. Ken was such a gentle man in those early days. “Perhaps the city changed him just too much.”She muttered. As she walks to sit on her balcony and let the breeze from the cool evening she prepares herself to mentally adapt to her new environment before calling it a night since it has been a long day already **** THE NEXT MORNING She gets a call from her best friend with the intention of checking up on her “Hey, bestie” Lucy called. “Hello baby face” Katrina replied “It's been ages since I heard from you”. Katrina said giggling from one end of the phone “I told you not to worry about missing me too much, because I was going to keep you updated on every little detail that goes on here” her best friend replied “Hahahaha” they both laughed “How are the king and queen doing?” she added “They are doing just fine”. Katrina answered “And can you believe how much this small town has changed?. I thought coming here would be the end of me initially, but I was really impressed by the sight that was before me” “Well, you know you shouldn't look down on a place or anyone… You just feel that way because you were born there and grew up there before moving away” “Good morning my princess, how did you sleep last night?” Mr Leonardes said while approaching Katrina's room “Okay bye the king has woken up and he is coming to my room now” Katrina said to her best friend “Hello, Papa, good morning” “I slept well and you?” she added “My night's rest was the best in a long time because my princess is around now” “Oh my sweet papa” Mr Leonardes stretched out his hand to Katrina gesturing to get her up from bed. “Let's go have breakfast and have a little chit chat” She gets off her bed and follows her father and sits at the dining table that has already been set by the chef. On the table was a very impressive breakfast “I'd get fat if I continue eating like this, Papa,” she said while chuckling “Bon appetite my princess, a princess doesn't get fat” “Hahahaha” they both laughed. As they had their breakfast, her father asked her the same throbbing question he had asked from the airport yesterday. “Baby where is your engagement ring?” Katrina went silent and stopped chewing her food, she slowly lifted her head about to answer when she heard a voice “Hey, don't spill the tea when I'm not there to grab it up” Mrs Leonardes said Her mum walked in trying to meet up with what Katrina was about to say. “Mama good morning” Katrina greeted “I didn't know you were in the house” she added “Where could I possibly be?” her mum asked “Probably on some expensive trip, like you always do mama” “That's enough now, tell us what happened between you and Ken” her dad said “Hmmm we broke up” “Is that it?” her mum asked Come on my princess we are your parents you can tell us anything… we want to know what happened” both her parents said They kept eating for a while before Katrina agreed to say exactly what happened. “He was not faithful to me, I thought I could handle it and prayed that one day he would change and outgrow the attitude” “And it got worse… he began to speak to me harshly, and he hit me on some occasions, and I just couldn't take it anymore” she said almost crying. Her parents stopped eating and paused for some minutes trying to process all that their daughter had just revealed “I'm so sorry you had to go through that with him hands… there's no level of family relationship that would make me allow my daughter to experience such” Mr leonarde said Both parents left their seats and gave Katrina a comforting hug and Katrina hugged them in return.
