Grrrr, grrrr, Mr. Leonardes' phone rings. "Hello, my princess," Mr. Leonardes answers the phone. "Hello, Papa," Katrina responded. “How may I be of help to my princess this wonderful morning? " Mr. Leonarde asked... “Name anything, and it shall be done," as he said, smiling… so that you could almost hear him grinning from ear to ear. “Oh, Papa, can't I call my sweet Papa anymore? ... I miss you, and I wanted to hear from you." She answered. “Of course you can, my princess. I just wanted to make sure that you are okay, and you know I love to hear your voice. You'll always be my baby no matter how old you are”. "Hahaha," Katrina laughed. “Papa, I would like to come home for the weekend and spend some time with you.” She added. “You do not need permission to come home; you know the house is your home too, and you are very welcome all the time, my princess," Mr. Leonarde said. “Okay, Papa, I'll be on my way tomorrow morning. I love you, Papa." Katrina replied and hung up the phone. Katrina started packing her luggage and booking tickets for her flight home. Ever since she graduated from university, she has decided to live on her own in the city, far from her family and the family business that was located in a small town. She hoped to build her own business and settle down with the love of her life, Ken, but now the dreams of having a lovely family life with Ken have been cut short. Ken was the traditional type of man who did not believe a woman had to own businesses or have her own money; he believed that his family name and wealth would do more than enough for his wife… Even for someone like Katrina, who had a relative social class to him, he preferred she be more like a ceremonial figure in the business with no real or clear-cut position to take in the company. But on the other hand, Katrina had a rather different ideology; she believes a woman doesn't have to be reduced to such standards and will not be able to bring up her true potential. This has been a little part of the issues they had in their relationship, but it wasn't a big problem. Not until the breakup of their engagement did it begin to make more sense to her. Giggling, “I guess I wasn't just good enough for him," Katrina muttered as she packed her luggage. **** AT THE AIRPORT Katrina had arrived at the town where her family lives and she was warmly welcomed by her family and their staff. Her dad stood tall, smiling from ear to ear, with a bouquet and some chocolates in one of his hands, something she loved as a kid while growing up. As she walked closer he opened up his arms to receive her and she quickened her steps in an attempt to run into his arms and hug her dad. “Papa” Katrina called while jumping into his arms “My princess, I've missed you my baby” he said holding her and almost carrying her in his arms. He stretched his arms out as a signal to let her come down from his body and handed her the flowers and chocolates he bought for her “You got my favorite papa!” “Yes my princess, anything for you” She sniffs the flowers and gives her father a peck on his cheek as they walk towards the car, the security and drivers all greet and welcome her. “You're welcome ma” She smiles and gives a nod to show that she acknowledges their greetings still holding her father in his arms. They get into the car and journey home to the Leonardes villa. As they drive home, she notices the changes and progress of the once little town, it's no longer as small as it was. “A lot has changed my princess” “Yes, Papa, I can see that” She continues to stare from her side of the window in the car. “So what brings you home my princess?” “Oh, Papa, why does it feel like it's a crime to come see my family?” “Well, I may be getting old now but I'm an intelligent man you know, I have noticed that your finger no longer has the ring that Ken gave you” Katrina went silent not being able to say something to defend the fact that her father had just made “And I can see the size of your luggage, as if you plan to stay here forever” he asked, and giggled “Oh, Papa, you bother too much now, aren't you happy to see me?” “Of course my princess I am delighted… we have plenty of time to talk about it when we get home” “Thank you, Papa,” she said Approaching the Leonardes villa now, the automated gigantic gates are opening, and the convoy of cars is escorting the Leonardes from the airport enters the compound, with tall green trees on both sides of the road leading inside to the house where they live. Domestic staff is already outside waiting to receive Katrina and her father. “Welcome home ma” They said while carrying her luggage inside the house and the chef came to ask her “Ma what would you like me to prepare for dinner?” “Bring me anything you have” she replied “My princess would not have just anything” Mr leonarde said “Let us feast”
