"Another survivor?" I glanced over and saw a prone figure. Kayla and I ran toward it. After a dozen or so steps, I realized it was Jasmine! She'd somehow left the cave and was lying motionless on the beach, seemingly lifeless. I remembered Julia promising to look after her yesterday afternoon before I left. 'Could it be that Julia kicked Jasmine out because she became a burden after being bitten by a snake?' I rushed to Jasmine's side and checked her pulse. Relief washed over me. It was faint, but there. She was breathing, too, though shallowly. The small snake bite on her chest had already healed, the surrounding skin smooth and clear.
