ADINNA Hunter’s eyes flash at me, a mixture of frustration and something I can’t quite place. “You do realize you’re worrying over nothing?” he asks again, voice low, edged with that raw, jagged tension I’ve come to recognize. I blink, taken aback by the question. “Excuse me?” I ask, my voice firm, though my hands still tremble slightly from the adrenaline of earlier. “Why would I not help you?” He looks away quickly, jaw tightening, the glow in his gold eyes dimming for a fraction of a second.
