Carlos and Wayne took an interest in Steve and began to track him. The complaint that Natasha brought against Steve made them suspicious. They met with various faculty members as well as current and former students. Steve’s current research assistants all said that he was an arrogant jerk. They believed that he used his academic credentials and power to exploit students. It seemed clear to the detectives that this was indeed true. It was not uncommon for this to occur in academia, as it was a cutthroat world. Carlos and Wayne told all the students that they were just trying to get to the bottom of Natasha’s disappearance. They did not want to tip off Steve that they were tracking him.
Carlos and Wayne met with the associate dean, Jane Walker. They arrived at her office around 3 p.m.
