Steve walked across campus and popped into the local coffee shop. A student waved at him. Steve looked and gave him a nod. It was Howard Ross, a joint JD/ PhD student. He jogged up to Steve.
“Hey, boss. You want anything?” asked Howard.
“Black coffee would be great, and a croissant.”
Howard grabbed the coffee and walked over to the table where Steve was sitting.
“Nice to see you, Dr. Jones. Thanks for meeting with me.”
“How’s the paper coming along?” asked Steve. He did not see any reason to beat around the bush with pleasantries. “I need our paper to be published in the top journal on crime and law. I reviewed the statistical model that you sent me. Did you get my comments? I have a few questions regarding how you coded several of the variables.”
