FOURTEEN

Sébastien’s Pov I didn’t need to stalk her. I restrained myself, leaving it to my men to do the job and find out about her precise location for me this time. Meanwhile, I had fallen into depression. One in which I could barely step out of the house after Olivia dumped me without a shred of remorse, and almost the entire pack members turned their backs on me after her public denouncement as the Luna. I would drink myself to stupor every night, the guilt of years ago when I acted rashly and threw away a precious gem in the form of my ex-mate, eating deep at me. Which only made my men, the only ones I have left on my side now, grow even more worried. But because they knew the name Rowena Lindsay, is the only one I would come running to, they tried harder and were able to find her location within just a few days. And me? I got back on my feet like I hadn’t been drowning in sorrows and madness the past few days and drove from my pack down to Redcrest Academy. Where I didn’t only see her, but I saw my kids too. And it wasn’t just one like I had presumed, but two kids. Twins. With their striking resemblance to me. “W—what are you doing here?” Her face dropped the very moment she sighted me. And when she stumbled backward in horror, she didn’t take the time to compose herself first. But stood before her children, blocking my view of them. Yet, that couldn’t stop me. As I continued approaching her, my eyes trailed the length of her body and back up to her face, taking in how much she’d grown and changed. If not for the cute little freckles on her face that I knew by heart, her glowing brown eyes, and most especially the familiar hatred in her glare; like she wished I’d vanish into thin air, I might not have recognized her at all. “I don’t know about you, but I’m happy to see you again, Rowena.” I said as I came to a stop before her, making sure I sounded as sincere as I could. “And I’m guessing they are my childr—” I made an attempt to look over her shoulder, but she shoved me back roughly, the rest of my sentence falling back in my throat. “No, they are not. Leave here this very moment, Sébastien,” She growled, the fury in her eyes enough to bury me six feet in the ground. “I don’t care how you found me, but it’d be better if you back off now that I'm being nice. Your presence alone disgusts me.” She hissed under her breath. I stood there shocked to the core as she turned around and grabbed her kids by their hands. “I’m sorry, Amelia but we’ll have to get going now. Since I have your contact now, I will make sure to reach out to you again.” Jealousy spiked in me as I watched her bid farewell to her friend with the biggest smile ever. That I knew even if I tried, I would never get to see that side of her again. “Alright, I’ll be looking forward to it. Bye kids.” Her friend, Amelia, called out enthusiastically as she walked away. After she left, Rowena led the kids to the waiting car surrounded by men in black suits. Her guards, no doubt. My fists tightened into a ball, and I felt deflated when neither of my children bothered to spare a look backward at me even until they reached the car. It was something I knew I deserved but still, my heart broke in despair. I might have had a shred of hope before but now they are gone. As she helped them inside the car, her back on me, I realized there was no use waiting around. Rowena would never forgive me. Or even as much as introduce the kids to me, giving them the knowledge I was their father. And not that man she’s living with now. Alexander Brown. The man that has taken every one of my places in her life. He sheltered her. Crowned her, and brought up the kids I refused to accept due to my covetousness and selfishness. As much as I detest him for being my replacement, I was able to see Rowena doing well now and it’s all because of him. He was the kind of man I could never be or live up to even in my next life. Trying so hard not to fall apart here of all places, I began to retreat. For the first time in my life, I felt like there was no longer any power in my hands and I wished the world would just end. “Oh, there’s something else I think I need to tell you, Mr. Sébastien,” I grounded to a sudden halt as Rowena’s voice suddenly burst in the air, the disdain in them louder than a drum. Still, my chest swelled with renewed hope and I found myself whipping back around in no time. Maybe, just maybe she was finally going to hear me out this time. Disregarding her chilling glare, I opened my mouth to speak but she beat me to it. “When you left me and sold me off, it was for good. Whatever we had then, no longer matters so if you dare come near my kids again, you might end up in jail for trespassing. You know that, right?” Her brow shot up, the threat dripping down her words loud and clear. I knew I shouldn’t be fazed but I swallowed hard, a chill running down my veins at her fury. The urge was still there to go after her, to make her look straight in my eyes as I apologized for wronging her, but I hesitated. What if her gaze, as sharp as a sword sliced through my neck, dropping it off before I could even reach halfway? What if she—? My jaw set, and I swept my hesitance aside. You know what? f**k it. I’m doing this. “Rowena,” I called her name softly, her frown deepening as I strode towards her but I didn’t stop. “I know what I did was unforgivable and you have every right to never want to lay your eyes on me again, but don’t you think I deserve another chance in your life? Ever since you left, I wasn’t at peace but kept trying to move on. However, I can’t do it anymore. Now that I have found you, I don’t want to return without you beside me. So, please, forgive me and—” “How many more times do you want me to spell it out to you that you’re my past, and that’s where you forever belong?” She interrupted me, cold and without remorse. “After rejecting me, you can’t just come running back after the person you left me for has dumped you. Once again, you think you can make me the second choice and that’s your silliest daydream. I don’t want you, not anymore, and you should get away from me, Sébastien.” The painful finality in her voice echoed in my head, splitting my heart into two parts. She loved me with all of her being and I never thought a day would come when I’d watch her go from loving to hating me. It’s a new reality that set my entire world on fire.
