Rowena’s Pov
Sèbastien came. He was here!
The more that I read through the letter, the more I gulped down the bile rising in my throat, my eyes turning red with an uncontrollable anger. My gaze stopped on the last statement on the paper, and I’ve never felt this amount of annoyance trailing down my nerves before in my lifetime.
‘I know it’ll be hard to earn your forgiveness. But I want you to know, Rowena, that if you ever need me, call onto me, and I’ll be there in a twinkle, like a flash, to get you out of there. Both you and my kids.
Love, Sèbastien.’
My anger boiled over in a matter of seconds, my hands firmly on the paper, shredding it into pieces. I've never seen someone as prideful and egotistical as he is. Everything on that paper reverberated in my head. Kids? What kids? So now, he has kids?
I wish I never read the letter at all. I had forgotten him, the memories of him and my painful past left behind me, but all of a sudden, he had to show up. And to his luck, I wasn’t aware. If I had, I wouldn't have been able to resist stabbing him in his sleep, and from the depth of hell; make him regret ever coming close.
Feeling wobbly all of a sudden, I didn't realize when I sat myself down on my bed, my legs shivering underneath my night robe as I tried to maintain my composure. The frame of Lily and Aiden was there on the wall across from me, reminding me of how happy their lives have been ever since, and how the slightest mistake could ruin it all.
They have never had any reason to ask of their father. Alpha Alexander has always been the one they took as one—a man who has been filling the void seamlessly—but now that Sèbastien is lodging around me, around them, I couldn't help but feel that a disaster was about to strike.
I had poured both my heart and soul into raising my kids. I did it all on my own, without any support from him, despite the betrayal that left a deep wound in my heart. But I had vowed to safeguard my children from him, to raise them, build them, and grow alongside them. With the Alpha by my side, I was able to give my kids the best life, and Sèbastien's absence was hardly noticeable.
I swore never to seek him out, no matter how tough things got. Luckily, life was kind, and I met the Alpha, whom the moon goddess used in rewriting my fate. I've soared to a height my past life couldn't have imagined, and now... Sèbastien's return, reopening old wounds, tied my stomach in painful knots.
I don’t want to imagine how Alexander will take the news. He's promised to take Sèbastien's head off his shoulders the moment he sees him, seeking vengeance for what he did to me.
Knowing I wouldn’t be able to catch a sleep tonight without getting to the bottom of this, I crossed the room and grabbed my cell phone. I made a call through to the head of house security, and he answered on the first ring.
“I need you in my room now. No delay.” I said, cutting off his greeting before hanging up.
I fought back the urge to pace my room as I waited, my eyes darting toward the clock incessantly. The door clicked open after a while and I turned around, releasing a fresh breath out of my lung in relief when I saw him.
“I’m here, Luna.” He shut the door and came to stand before me.
"Have there been any visitors from other packs recently?" I started, internally bracing myself for the truth. When he remained silent, I frowned, crossing my arms over my chest. "Don't even think about telling me you don't know. You're responsible for recording the pack’s comings and goings."
"No, ma'am. I do know. However, there are numerous records of outsiders visiting the pack each month. Recently, we had not one, but two men visit. I'm not sure if they're the ones you're looking for, but—" He paused, and I felt a sudden surge of panic.
"Two?" I repeated, my ears tuning out the rest of his words.
"Is there a problem, Luna?" he asked, but I was still in shock. Finally, I found my voice and blurted out something that surprised myself, “I want to see the surveillance footage."
Confusion crossed his face, but he nodded and followed me as I took the lead. I was on edge, and my uncertainty about the way to the surveillance room only added to the tension in the air.
I never had any reason to visit this part of the house before, and now that I was, anxiety was eating me up from the walls of my stomach.
My finger brushed away the strand of hair standing in the way of my face as he showed me the footage of his visit. But as soon as I saw him— and his driver— walking into the house, looking distressed, I regretted it.
I could see the desperation etched on his face as I replayed the video over and over. And with each passing second, my anger toward him intensified.
"Thank you," I said, standing up and quickly exiting the room before I lost control.
I rushed to my room, locked the door, and collapsed to the floor, ready to pull my hair out in frustration. But before I could, the door creaked open.
My eyes snapped towards the entrance, prepared to scream at the security guard for not knocking. But it wasn't him. The tall, elegant figure standing in the doorway was someone else. It was the Alpha, and he was finally back.
I rushed to my feet and flung myself into his arms. As I went still against him, I could sense his surprise.
“Alpha," I whispered, refusing to let a tear out of my eyes as I wrapped my arms tighter around his neck. My eyes closed as I tried to hide the hurt.
He gently pulled back, his eyes boring into mine, searching them with an intensity that made my inside rattle with anxiety.
“What happened?” He asked, the affection seeping out of his voice.
I blinked as the Alpha’s thumb swept away a tear I hadn’t realized had fallen, “We’ve spoken about this, Rowena. You’re not to hide anything from me.”
My heart skipped a beat. All of a sudden, nothing made sense anymore. My heart rate, the fear at the back of my mind, all because of Sèbastien’s unexpected appearance was all too scary. I had been ninety percent sure he would never show up in my life again, not after the brutal rejection he had dealt me. But the remaining ten percent of doubt was there, stirring up my deepest fear.
I knew I had to confide in Alexander. Sèbastien’s return was my worst nightmare. The thought of him disrupting my life again was agonizing.
There’s no other way. With the Alpha, I can face whatever is coming, and keep my kids safe away from the gathering storm.
“He’s returned,” I let out, my voice cracking despite trying to maintain steadinesses. “Sèbastien… is back.”
His eyes flashed, and a low growl vibrated through his chest, chilling me.
He didn’t have to speak. His anger spoke for itself. It was painted across his face; the desire to hunt down Sèbastien and wipe him off the face of the earth, once and for all.
