Anna (Alana) POV
Hearing my father's gruff voice almost brought tears to my eyes. His voice brought me right back home. I hadn't realized how much I missed the Rising Moon Pack until I heard his voice come across the line.
"Dad? It's me."
"Alana! It's great to hear from you. I was starting to get concerned that something had happened to you."
"I'm as fine as I can be." Even as I said it, I felt homesick. "I'm going to be accepted into their pack tonight."
I left out that I was the Alpha's mate. I wanted that to be an in-person conversation. My father did have a temper problem, and I could have handled him better if I had been there physically.
"That's great to hear. I knew you could do it; you had always been my shining star. Have you been able to get any information yet?"
"No, yet. I should have more access once I'm accepted into the pack."
There was a slight pause before he answered.
"Okay. Do you think you can get me information within a week?"
"I can try. Being here has been more difficult than I thought."
"That's why I gave you this assignment; I know you can do it. Alright, contact me next week with information I can use. Love you, sweetie."
"Love you too, Dad." I barely squeaked it out, my voice hitting a high pitch as I tried to keep from crying.
I just listened to the dead phone line for a few seconds, as if listening would bring me back to my family. My memories of them began to overpower me and I just stood there wanting to remember every little detail of them.
I have to pull myself together. Jess is going to be wondering where I'm at. I can't keep her waiting too long. I need to remain above suspicion as much as I can.
I switch my SIM card again, hiding my special SIM card in a small pocket in my purse. I checked my makeup and then went back out to meet Jess.

I mentally prepared myself for my date with Justin. Just being near him, not touching him, would test my resolve. I had to stay focused on my family. No matter how short, the call with my dad had significantly raised my spirits about why I was here.
Now that I have more freedom, maybe I can plan an "accidental" meeting with my brothers. It would be easy to set up. A day at the mall and they happen to be there too. It brought a smile to my face just thinking about it.
I turned my attention back to preparing for the date.
Justin said to dress comfortably, which made me curious about where he would take me. It obviously wasn't going to be a fancy restaurant, which left me slightly disappointed because I am a major foodie.
I waited on the front porch of the pack house, feeling out of place as everyone waved at me. I think word had finally spread around the pack that I was someone special to the Alpha.
I hear the soft whine of an ATV in the distance. Soon, a brightly gold-painted ATV came into view with Justin driving. He wore his standard causal jeans and a plain t-shirt, looking gorgeous as usual.
"My lady, your carriage awaits." He got out of the ATV and gave a flourished bow. I couldn't help but laugh at his silliness.
"This is the fanciest 'carriage' I have ever been in."
"It has 50 horsepower, which will give you the smoothest ride on the trail we're going on."
"And what if I want a fun ride?"
He approached me and whispered, "I'll give you the best ride if you want."
He pulled away from me as his eyes took on a darker tone, and he kept his eyes glued to my lips.
"Maybe after the trial, the period," I whispered softly.
A flash of disappointment came across his face, quickly followed by a smile.
"If you don't want to ride me, which is sorely disappointing, let me take you to a place of wonder." He hopped back onto the ATV and motioned for me to sit behind him. Letting my hands grasp his sides, sending tingles through my body as I tried to control my thoughts.
Justin took off quickly; even behind him, I felt the wind blow in my hair. I naturally held onto him tighter, relishing the contact and desperately wishing I didn't have to do so.
We passed through the pack lands, most of which were forest once we were outside the inhabited area.
We eventually stopped in a small clearing. He took out a piece of cloth from this pocket.
"Put it on. We don't have far to go now."
I slowly put the blindfold on. He took off much slower, though he didn't go far before I felt the ATV stop.
I felt him get off the ATV before he picked me up and set me down. I heard a large crashing sound of water.
"Just hold my hand and I'll guide you."
I grasped his hand, trusting him to guide me over the landscape. He finally stopped me and gently pulled off the blindfold.
I gasped. What lay before me was a picnic for two on a blanket. There was a beautiful bouquet of flowers of English Roses and Delphiniums. The loud water crashing was a waterfall with a pool at the bottom.
I smiled and put my hand to my face.
"This is perfect!"
I gave him a quick kiss on the lips.
That was a mistake.
His desire reigned on his face.
"Anna…"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that."
He gulped. "Let's eat. I don't quite know what you like yet, and I hope I got it right. We have chicken Caesar salad wraps, berries, potato salad, and pecan bites for dessert."
"It's wonderful and thoughtful. I've never had anyone do this for me."
"You deserve this and more." His voice was low. He bit his lip and looked away. "I have wine, too. I brought a Riesling."
"Are you allowing me to drink underage?"
He laughed.
"We both know your body can process it faster than humans. Besides, I feel you've already been to a few parties where you have partaken."
"You might be right." I flashed a smile at him while we sat down.
"This is a lovely spot. How did you find it?"
"It's a location passed down from one young Crescent Moon pack member to the next. The falls here have a special story. There was once a young wolf who traveled far and wide to find his fated mate. He had searched the entire globe except for one pack.
"That pack was the mortal enemy of the wolf's pack. The young wolf became dejected when he realized his fated mate must be in the enemy's pack. However, the goddess Selene saw fit to bless the wolf with his dedication towards finding his destined mate.
"The young wolf's fated mate went for a run outside her pack lands one day and became lost. It was just the young wolf's luck that he was running in the same area and saw his fated mate. The two fell instantly in love.
"However, unknown to both of them, the she-wolf's father had followed her outside the pack land. When the father saw the wolf from the enemy tribe, he killed him. The young she-wolf then vowed never to love another, and her tears flowed so much they made these falls."
Oh, goddess, this story is too close to our situation. Is he on to me, or is this an absolute legend?
"I feel bad for the young wolf. To travel around the world and finally meet your mate, only to die soon after. Who comes up with these stories?"
"Who says it's just a legend? Maybe it was based on a truth that expanded. But you know what is also part of the legend? If you jump off the water with the one that you love and aren't separated when you land in the pool, your relationship will be filled with happiness and love until you both die."
"Now that is not true."
"How do you know. Let's give it a try."
"You want us to jump off the waterfall together? It's twenty feet tall."
"Yes, it twenty feel of falling together for everlasting love. It's worth a try. Or are you scared that you won't be happy with me?"
