Chapter Five: Knots

1682 Words
Justin POV There was blood all over the scene, too much blood. Tina, one of my Omegas, was attacked in an alleyway near one of our restaurants. It was surprising that she even survived. “White male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing black hooded and jeans, brown eyes, brown hair…” One of the police officers, who also happened to be a warrior from the pack, was calling the description over the radio as I walked past him. I headed towards Mark, the local police chief, on the other side of the crime scene. Mark was a human but was informed of the supernatural creatures who lived and worked in the town. Mark was well aware of the Rising Moon and Crescent Moon conflict; in his press conferences it was always a conflict between the two rival gangs. “What do you think happened here?” I asked Mark. “It's the same M.O. as the last three attacks. The perpetrator corners the women in the alley, attacks them brutally, and leaves them in a coma. No s****l assault or theft.” “It makes no sense.” “Some perps do it because it feels good. However, in this case, all the attacks happen near your properties. I have to ask Justin, is something going on?” “No more than the usual. Maybe the Rising Moon Pack is trying to scare off customers from my properties? I can't say for sure, though." “The usual is that young girls don't end up in comas." Mark sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "Alright, if you think of anything, let me know. I want to stop these attacks just as much as you do.” I nodded. This wasn’t going to be simple. I couldn't say for sure whether this was the Rising Moon or if it was another magical creature. Eric and I rode in silence to the hospital to look at Tina. Both of us were exhausted from all the increasing issues occurring over the past few months. It seemed like every time we found a lead, it ended with no more answers. Somehow, the attacks and Rising Moon Pack were related, we just couldn't prove it yet. When we arrived on Tina's floor, the nurses pointed us toward her room and warned us that she was in a coma. My mother was already in the room, holding her hand. “Poor girl. Another victim in this war. The Rising Moon Pack should have been destroyed years ago.” “More deaths aren’t going to solve the problem.” "It would only be their deaths, though. If this cycle continues, we’ll all be dead.” I was stopped from saying any more as Tina’s parents rushed into the room. Her father turned towards me. “Stop them. Stop the Rising Moon from causing any more trouble. I won't be able to bear it if more girls end up like Tina.” I nodded at Tina's father then motioned at Eric for us to leave. “Tina looks like the other three. I think it’s time for us to find a witch or warlock to examine them.” Eric spoke when we were alone. "Do it and let me know when you find a good one. We can't mess this up, and I have a feeling this is more complicated than it seems. Everything feels complicated right now." I paused. "I found my mate earlier." "You did? That's awesome! How come you didn't say something sooner? Who is she?" "Anna, the new slave girl. Well, the new Luna now." I glanced at Eric. Even from this angle, I could tell he was distressed. "Anna? Are you sure about this? We haven't finished her background. We still don't know if her story is true." "She's my mate, Eric. If anyone is going to question her, it will be me.Besides, if she was really into harming the pack, she would have happily accepted me as my mate, as most women would." My pride is still a bit wounded she didn’t immediately accept me. At least she didn’t reject me but it was a small consolation when I didn’t know her intentions towards me. However, I didn’t feel any ill intentions, and I’m generally good at reading others. If I wasn’t good at discerning other’s actions my time as an Alpha would be short. “There could be any number of reasons she didn’t immediately accept you. Maybe she harmed another pack member or stole something. Alpha Xavier never told us why he banished her, only that he did.” “I understand your concerns Eric, but Selene has made us mates. I’m not going to reject my goddess given mate because you haven’t managed to ferret out her whole life story.” Eric sighed and shook his head. "I'll support you, but I think you should wait to announce her. Give it a bit of time to see who she really is." Eric was making logical sense but I didn't want to wait. She was my goddess given mate and I wasn't going to reject her. Goddess, I missed her already. I haven't even spoken to her, yet I just wanted to be around her. I cursed myself for my stupidity earlier. I shouldn't have snuck up on her and kissed her. I should have taken it slow. She could have been with me now, or helping to calm the pack down. As we drove back to the packhouse, I only hoped she was ready to talk because I desperately needed to see her. *** Anna (Alana) POV Green eyes. Bright green eyes. Strong jawline. Light brown hair. Mmmm, and those muscles. I imagined I was in his arms. Despite not wanting to think about him and commanding myself to not think about him, I could only picture him and pretend he had his hands on me. Caressing me, kissing me. F.ucking me. I had to find a way to stop this war. That was the only chance that we could be together. Maybe no one from either pack would accept it at first, but I’m sure they would come around. We could wait for as long as it took to become accepted. Maybe while we are waiting, we can find a place on neutral ground, live together, and even have pups. I like where this is going, except for the waiting part. We definitely should not wait. Avery, we still don't know these people; they could be serial killers for all we know. Serial killers? Have you seen how happy and cheery Ellie is? If she were any happier, she would become a rainbow and sprinkle flowers and glitter on everyone. Maybe Ellie's an outlier. I mean, mate just came up and kissed us without a greeting. I fail to see the problem with that. I’m just saying that maybe they are all that aggressive when they want something. Alana, the most suspicious thing I’ve seen anyone do here is Meredith sneaking more bread at dinner because she was starving and she’s a slave like us. We just haven’t interacted with enough of them. I disagree. You just want to believe Alpha Brandon and Luna Clarice over what you see. It isn’t just Alpha Brandon and Luna Clarice. They killed our parents! Fifteen years ago! This was stupid. There was no denying the Crescent Moon Pack killed my parent fifteen years ago. Alpha Brandon and Luna Clarice took me and my two brothers in and raised us like we were their own. My adoptive parents wouldn’t led me astray. They cared why too much about me. “Anna! Annnnaaaa!” I heard Ellie shouting from a distance, slightly distressed. I took a deep breath. I didn't want to be found, but it was time to return to reality. "Hey, Ellie! I'm so sorry I ran off. I guess the man kissing me took me by surprise." Ellie gave me an odd expression. "Are you okay, lass? It must have been startling, but he is still your mate." Now or never. Deny him as a mate or not? “I think he must have been mistaken. I still smell like a rogue." I felt guilty for not being honest with Ellie; she was one of the sweetest people I knew, even if she was from the Crescent Moon. "I don't think he was mistaken. He isn't the type of man to make a mistake like that. He's a good man. You shouldn't be scared to have a relationship with him. He'll treat you wonderfully." Ellie paused when she saw I didn't believe her words. "Are you feeling better, though?" Her concern showed on her face. “Yes, I’m feeling better. It’s been a lot to take in. You may know my mate very well, but I don't. Then the last few days have been a lot adjusting to life here and then to suddenly have a mate... it's just a bit much.” “I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better and I'm sure you'll adjust to having a mate in no time. Just give him a chance, you won't regret it if you do. I hate to change the topic but we need to get back to the pack house right now, though. There has been an attack on one of the pack members in town.” “That’s terrible. Is she alright?” “Tina is unfortunately in a coma. The Rising Moon Pack is likely up to their old tricks again. Anyway, the Alpha has commanded everyone come to the pack house for a meeting tonight.” Her words made me slightly sick to my stomach. Before I had left the Rising Moon Pack, Alpha Brandon had stated that he wouldn’t put any other plans in motion until my success, or failure, was complete. He wouldn’t go back on his word, would he? Maybe he already thinks that I failed? My stomach felt like it was in knots. I had to get a message to him soon.
