Cornered

Calvin's POV I made a mistake, I didn't approach the situation properly. I'm glad I walked away when I did, it pained me to see her scared of me. I went to the gym in the basement and worked out for an hour. I need to let out the steam and frustration I feel. Afterwards I went to take a shower so I can begin my day. This home is my sanctuary so I'm very protective of it. Yes, I let a complete stranger stay in my house. But your mate really isn't a stranger now are they? As I finished getting dressed my phone rang on the side table. Sigh time for the work to begin "Good morning Zandy," "Good morning Sir, you don't have meetings today as per postponement." I smiled, great now I can spend my day with Anya. "Zandy please do some research for me about King Lionel and how he ascended the throne." she penned it down and dropped the call. It's a beautiful day today, I should probably go and apologize to Anya first. I went to her room and knocked on the door, slight humming and the rushing of water captured my heart. I didn't know she could sing. I inched closer as opened the door and knocked louder. "Anya, may we please speak when you're done?" the rushing it the water stopped and there was absolute quiet. She didn't answer but I'll take it as a yes. It frustrates me sometimes, how distant and quiet she is. I cannot force her to communicate with me though. I can only be there for her. I went and sat in my room waiting. My mind drifted to the mark on her neck, I remember my parents telling me stories about that Family. The Rivera's were the second most powerful family after ours. No one knows what happened to them, it was said that they were all killed in a fatal accident. Since there were no heirs left Their cousin Lionel Fugo took to the throne. I shook my head in denial. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe she isn't a Rivera. "Take her to the river you'll find out." Aragorn said. That is a brilliant idea. If she isn't of Royalty the River will run cold through and through. "Thank you Aragon," I stood up and went to the door. There she stood in the hallway, wearing her regular jeans and hoodie. "I bought you a dress.." I startled her, I'd laid out the dress on her bed. She turned around and I smiled. I don't know what it is, but her heart seems cold and distant sometimes. She looked down and fiddled with her fingers. "I hate dresses." My eyebrows quirked up in amusement. As beautiful as she is, she doesn't like dresses. "Alright we'll buy what you prefer," I say. The strong urge to hold her hand visits me. I keep having to fight this compulsion. I cannot explain why I feel this need. The warmth of her hands, the softness of her skin. My mind seems to wander off as she stares at me, it seems as though I'm not the only one feeling something. Aragorn nudges at me, "Calvin you need to ask her about her wolf." I sigh, "Not yet, I want her to be comfortable again." I look at her as we enter the car. "If I'm correct about who she is, there will be a war coming Aragorn" He growls low and deep. She keeps her gaze out the window, I wonder what she's thinking. Aragorn is right, this all would be so much easier with her wolf. "I want to apologize," She shifts her gaze outside the window. "No, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude in your home." I shake my head in response. "Focus on the road Calvin," Aragorn says as I grab Anya's hand. I don't want her to feel like this. Sighhh... "I should probably explain why I reacted the way I did. I once had a poisoning scare and hence I don't eat food cooked by anyone else but myself." she sighed and pulled her hand away from mine. "It was my ex girlfriend and one of my enemies. But that doesn't mean my bad experience should reflect on to you." Her gaze shifted to outside the window again. I don't know what she's thinking now and it's driving me crazy. "It's okay, I understand." she says without looking at me. I wish she would express herself more. We arrived at the mall and people's eyes began to wander towards us. Thankfully I'm not the type that cares. If any of these people wanted to try something they would fail. I have the best militant guards out of all kingdoms. You can't even see them. But they are around, some living their daily normal lives. The feeling to hold her close to me, visited again and this time she was even more distant, almost as though she was thinking about earlier events. We headed to Sportif wear this is one of my favorite shops. "Take anything you want," she looked at me shocked then went off. I turned around to focus on my phone and see if there are any other errands I need to run. My phone rang, and it was my chief of security Vincent is calling. "Sir we have a problem not far off the Daewolf Pack perimeter." I wonder who is testing my strength now. "The guards found scouts nearing and camping around the area. They haven't said why they were in the area." I thought about it for a few minutes. "Vincent take them and give them a good stay. Meanwhile give a report on everything you saw as you found them, their surroundings, how they look and whatever is in their possession. Keep an eye on them." I ended the call when I saw Anya approach. "I'm done," she says with an almost squeaky voice. I grab the bags out of her hand and we head out of the store. "I can do it on my own," I ignore her and continue carrying the bags. As we reach the car I put the bags in the back and open the door for her. She gets inside and I head to my side and start the car. I can't hold it anymore I feel the urgency to ask. "Anya where is your wolf?" she looks away, pain in her eyes was visible. "I don't know, I'm starting to think I'm human." her soft voice breaking the more she speaks. I force my hands into a fist so she doesn't see my anger. What if those people did something to her so bad that her wolf was suppressed? I take the short rout to the park, hopefully there aren't many tourists today and we can have a chance at the waterfall. This waterfall is my family's sacred place. My ancestors live in this river, their caskets get taken by the river. I explain the story to her and her eyes widen with shock, I'm sure she thinks it's all a hoax. "We've searched the river far and wide to see if may the caskets could have sunk. We even searched the forest but there's nothing." Upon reaching the waterfall I marvel at its beauty, it's an exquisite form of nature. I begin to undress and as I turn around, so does she. "Uhmmn... Am I.. Supposed to undress as well?" she asks and I chuckle, I love how cute she's being right now. I walk close to her and touch her shoulder. I feel her stiffen and it breaks my heart. "I don't wanna hurt you, come I want to help you find your wolf." she turns around to find me walking behind the water fall. "We'll find out if you're human or not," I Smile as she approaches. Her scars have healed leaving little visible marks from her attack. She tries to hide it but I hold her hand as we step into the water. For a few seconds it runs cold, then the shimmering warmth comes. I begin to chant and speak to the river, calling on my werewolf ancestors. Anya begins to shake, her eyes going a complete white. Growls begin to sound off the ripples of the water. Soon I hear a howl so loud, it nearly punctures my ear drums. A low growl comes searing at me and Aragorn avails himself. He responds in like and next thing they are sniffing at each other. "Mate!" she says and lies back down. Then Anya falls limp to the ground. I stop the chanting and pull her aside. I quickly dress up in my jeans and pick her up. As thick and petite as she is, I'm thankful for my medium strength built body. She fills my arms just perfectly. As I walk back towards the car she wakes up in my arms and her eyes widen in shock. "What happened?" she asks, averting her eyes elsewhere. If she weren't my mate, I'd say she is completely intimidated by my presence but she never runs away. "Welcome back, I thought I'd lost you for good. Meet your wolf Luperca" Her eyes glimmer with hope but what she's about to learn could break her even more. That was no normal sized wolf that I saw there, it was definitely a lycanthrope. I put her in the car and dress her with her hoodie and a small blanket. "Calvin, why are you so nice to me?" she asks. "The fates brought you my way, how can I treat you badly with all you've been through?" she looks down and I hear her sob and it's breaking my heart even more. "Can I hold you now?" she hesitates but agrees and I grab her warm hand. My chest calming down as my fingers settle into hers. Just as we arrive back to the house, my phone rings. I exit the car to help Anya with her shopping bags but she refuses. "Answer your phone call, I'll be fine." I look at the caller ID and it's Vincent. "Vincent what's wrong?" I ask. "Sir, it's urgent. You're going to have to come to the command post." I tell him I'm on my way and head to the house to change. I find Anya in the bed reading her book and a thought comes to mind. "You're welcome to cook anything you'd like. I'll eat when I come back." she looked at me with her lips slightly parted and all I'd wished to do is kiss her. I smile and walk off to my room, I change into black jeans, a black shirt and black combat boots. I went to the garage and took the keys for the SUV. And off I went to the other side of town. When I arrived at the office Vincent was pacing up and down. I know when he's frustrated and all he wants is to devour but he's the chief for a reason. "Vincent" I say shaking his hand "Boss" he says leading me to his office. "You have to listen to this." He turns on the screens and a blow up of four men shows up. "These are the scouters we found in the perimeter. They said they were camping, to teach themselves survival skills." He sighs as I inch toward the screen to get a clear view of the men. "But after surveilling them, we heard something." He moved to the screen and flipped a switch. The sound immediately came on and we heard their conversation. "We have to find her, if she's the girl that King Otto found that day, we have to leave with her." The second man stood up and kicked the stone. "Why did you let them stay in the perimeter?" he looks at the screen and back to me. "We offered them shelter and they refused." To say I was angry would be a lie, I was fuming. "The Alpha will kill us if we don't get back to the pack with her. He said it's important, either she has to be dead or back in the dungeon there's no way about it." One of the others says. "Alright so how are we going to find her in fairview?" the third man asks. Clearly he's irritated and isn't happy to be here. "Tyler was once Fated to her, I'm sure he can still pick up her scent." the first man points out. At this point I'm growling and infuriated. The veins in my head are about to pop I'm so angry. "After rejection it isn't as strong but we can try. And remember we are just tourist's looking for some food in the city." They all nodded, switched off the fire and went to sleep. My breathing had hitched, it seems like we have a war coming to our state. "Chief Vincent, as soon as these men enter our city. Have them strip searched and arrested. I'll see you when there's progress." I walked out and went back to my car, the frustration and anger in me was burning to be unleashed. I punched the steering wheel in anger and the airbag exploded in my face. 'Sigh.... I need to solve this now.' "All we have to focus on is protecting our Mate" Aragorn finally shows up. "Don't worry about much, just protect her." I started the car and drove off going home, I took the long route again so I can cool off. When I got home it was so late and I found Anya sleeping in the lounge, I don't know if she was waiting for me or enjoying her book. I moved the blanket aside and picked her up. Just as I reached the top of the stairs she stirred. Pursing her lips in cute movements and rubbing her eyes. "Calvin you're back?" I smiled, she's getting used to me and that makes me very happy. "Yes I'm back, you're very tired it's okay to sleep." I laid her on the bed and covered her with the blanket. My thoughts were going crazy at her scent. "Just a little Calvin it won't hurt," I Sighed. Aragorn wants to be naught now, and I'd rather not do this without her permission. "Just for a few minutes but I prefer her permission." I took my jacket and shoes off and got in behind her. Parts of me felt so ignited that I had to calm myself down. Then I held her closely and closed my eyes.
