Old Ghosts

Following Peter up to an old Victorian mansion, the gates that surrounded the property was old and rusted black metal that stood in the ground. The guards that kept watch at the front of the gates eyed me suspiciously as Peter nodded to them. They radioed in to tell whoever to open the gates. Standing taking in the outside of the gates seeing that they had video cameras pointed right at the place Peter and I stood. The outside of the gates had video cameras ever few feet down the long ground surveying the activities going on around them. Chuckling shaking my head, and we are supposed to be big bad vampires. Why would he need so much protection? The gates screeching open Peter turned to me and gestured for me to follow him. Walking through the gates seeing a perfectly cut lawn as we walked up the drive to the mansion. In the middle of the circle that went to the front of the mansion that you can drive around stood a fountain made of stone in the shape of a horse rearing up, on the ground around the horse was what looked like wheat made of stone and water sprayed up over the the wheat to land in the water around the circle that the horse stood in the middle of.Funny it reminded me of the night I first saw him shaking my head slightly. Looking toward the mansion it was white with a porch that encircled the front of the mansion. Four huge columns stood in front as if to hold up the building. Bushes laid in perfect squares in front of the wooden porch. We ascended four steps to get to the door. The door was black and had a knocker the shape of a gargoyle. Peter didn't knock he merely turned the knob and opened the door. Pushing the door open smelling the death floating out of the door as Peter opened it for us. Wrinkling my noise, yes it was filled with vampires. Smelling them heavily. There must have been 20 vampires residing in this place. My fangs exploded in my mouth and cautiously stepped over the threshold following Peter into the house. Stepping in the living area their was 10 vampires flanked through out the room. Some sitting on couches, some sitting in chairs, or just hugging the walls blending in with the shadows. The color of the room was a deep red, the windows were draped in heavy black drapes that were dust covered from never being moved. In the middle of the room stood a huge fireplace made of stone. All the vampires stared at Peter and I as we walked in in the living area. Studying my ever move as I studied them. I could kill them all if I had to it might make me break a little sweat, but they was all nothing, not one of them smelt to be over 500 years old. A smile tugged at my lips as one female vampire hissed a steady hiss at me. Glaring at the curvy brunette with brown eyes as she stared at me with hatred. Hearing the wind beating against the house in the temptation of a fight with the female. It would be nothing to snap her neck and rip her heart out with out her even knowing what hit her. The shutters outside the house now was hitting the house so hard that they was in danger of breaking. With a full smile resting on my lips licking my top lip and winking at her. That was all she needed and was in the air lunging at me, crouching down to spring. Peter took flight and caught the female in mid air and brought her down in a chock hold. "Marissa, this is not one that you shall attack, she is important to the King, you will leave her be!" Wow, Peter pumpkin did something useful. Crossing my arms in front of me resting my weight on my right leg watching with bored eyes as the female now known as Marissa, hissed at me and stood up out of Peter's hold. Glaring at me with all the hate that she could muster up at me. Simply rolling my eyes and patting my mouth to cover a yawn. The look she gave me was to amusing. She stomped out of the living area to a back room, breaking and slamming things as she went. Eying her leave, with a half smile on my face. Peter nervously came back to my side "This way my lady." Smiling at him we went through the living area to the middle of the house where steps lead to the upstairs of the mansion. We stared ascending the steps to the 2nd floor and on the wall hanging were paintings of different vampires. The third picture up made me stop, it was Micheal. A mixture of emotions coursed through me as I stared at the painting of the vampire that had loved me and wanted me. Not wanting anything to do with him he selfishly took Christopher as a slave of his own to do his bidding. Stepping back from the painting. Starting back up the steps, as we got to the top of the stairs another painting hung and it was him. The man that I felt so passionately for and I was willing to give up everything to have him. He was on the very horse I seen him that night in the wheat field. His features was all the same except his skin was paler than the night that having first seen him. Maybe this wasn't a good idea to come here and see him. My blood started to course through my veins and the feelings that I had long ago came back and washed me over, fear filled me. Fear is not an emotion that I fell to often, there is not much out there that can make me fear it. But the emotions that was running through me made me fear myself. Not loving anything, but the chase, and the fear from others. Not someone that I don't even know. "Are you coming Veronica?" I am not sure how long I was standing in front of the painting of Christopher, but Peter had a look of bewilderment as he watched me turn to him then back to the painting. "Yes I am coming." Turning topping the stairs turning down a hallway lit with sconces along the wall with candles. The hall was painted in deep red as we passed through the hallway. Mentally counting there was four rooms on the left and three and a bathroom on the right. We was heading to the last door at the end of the hallway. Stopping before the door, Peter raised his hand to knock on the door and before his hand could rest on the door "Come in" was called from the other side of the door. "Not you Peter. I just would like to see Veronica." Peter turned to me and took a step back gesturing for me to enter. I could hear the wind outside raging as I stepped into the poorly lit room. The rain had started again to coincide with my emotions, hesitating by the door seeing a desk with a chair behind it with the back to me, the big window that the man was looking out you could see the trees giving with the force of the wind and the rain belting down on the ground. Smiling to myself starting to relax from feeling the fear that Christopher felt from me entering the room. The wind howled outside still, but the rain slacked off to a drizzle as Christopher slowly turned to look at me. As he turned to a stop staring at me seeing the fear in his eyes, but he looked the same as the day I had encountered him in the field so long ago. My heart started to beat faster looking into his eyes, still the same blue of the clear sea. My mind raced at the thought of being so close to a man that I felt so overwhelmed to protect such a long time ago. Even thought that I loved him which of course was so naive to even think about. Thinking about him trying to kill me the last time we met my heart turned to ice my eyes grew cold. The wind picked back up and snow started flying about outside, it looked like a blizzard outside now.Feeling the change in my emotions Christopher tensed up behind his desk, fear the emotion that loving the best in all beings shown through him. Smiling at him walking to the front of his desk and raised one eye brow "What is it that you want to speak to me?" Holding him with my eyes taking in his fear, watching him squirm trying to tear away from my stare. Smiling ruefully blinking to let him go of my gaze and to let him speak. He was quick to look away from my face before he spoke to me. Smiling sitting on the edge of his desk placing my hands in my lap as to be an innocent girl. "Well Veronica.....I a.....I a...." He cleared his throat to try and regain his voice. "I wanted to talk to you about taking up residence here in your city." Pruning my lips together looking at Christopher. He is done telling me what I already knew, and if he kept this up it was going to be a long annoying conversation. "I've already heard that. What else is it." Standing, Christopher moved to the side of the desk I was perched on and looked me in the eyes again. Got to give it to him he was brave to chance another look at me. Smiling at him so that he would continue. The quicker he told me what he wanted the quicker I could leave. "I want to know if my coven goes out in search for food you will leave them be?" Already knew this too. Annoyance was writing all over my face now as I glared back at Christopher. "I will not hurt your precious coven as long as they don't provoke me. Believe me when I tell you this Christopher it does not take much to provoke me." Smiling a rueful smile at him he nodded his head in understanding of what I told him. "So are we through? I am ready to leave." Standing up from my perch on the side of his desk he stepped in front of me, in my way from leaving his presence. Hissing at him "Is there anything else, you wish to speak of." Claiming him with my eyes again not letting him speak a word so he knew that I was not playing around with him and that I was ready to be gone from this place. Blinking to let him loose of my gaze. Breathing heavy Christopher stepped back a step from me and squared his shoulders and stood tall before me. Taking him in not realizing he was probably close to six foot and the muscles danced under his shirt that he wore it was black as death as the rest of his clothes. Having the sudden urge to kiss him and hold him close to me and never let him go of my hold again. Briefly closing my eyes to shake the feeling that overcome me so quick opening my eyes, Christopher was staring at me with a gentle smile. "What do you want!" I growled feeling the color leave my eyes as they turned to ice in the gaze I laid upon him. "I just want to say that you have haunted me for 500 years, I dream and think about you all the time. I should have never hurt you back then in the field that night. I was frightened then, I was just a mere human. Now I see you and I know what it is to be a creature of the night." Christopher slowly smiled at me as he looked down to the floor and a slightest blush came to his cheeks as he began to speak again. "That night I first saw you, I don't know how to explain what the affect you had on me, but it was like I wanted to take you and hold you, make love to you and just be with you. I know now that you probably never felt that way that night. But I do wonder why you didn't kill me and why you protected me from Micheal?" Christopher placed his hand on my shoulder as he tried to look into my eyes to get any hint of what I was thinking. "The real reason why I wanted to see you tonight was to see if I still would feel the same way about you. Or if you was really just something that my imagination dreamed up on it's own.And seeing you I know now, that I could have neverimagined it." He squeezed my shoulder trying to get me to answer him, any kind of answer. Was he really being serious that he felt the way that I did that night? Or was this just some scheme to make me soften up so he and his coven could take over my town with me out of the way. Being conflicted about what way his motives could be and the turn in conversation. The ground began to shake, the walls started to groan with the tremors moving the ground beneath the structure. Christopher let go of my shoulder and looked around as knickknacks he had on the shelves of his room started to fall. Had he really just confessed that he loved me and wanted to be with me? My mind spun as to try and make since out of what he just spoke of. The door slammed open as Peter and two other vampires flanked in behind him, Christopher turned to see their entrance. The moment he turned I flung my self out the big window to his room shattering the glass as I busted through it. Landing on the balls of my feet, falling from the 2nd floor of his building, I ran. Running toward the gate a guard stepped out of the bushes to take me down, he swung a sword at me. Jumping in the air doing a flip and twisting in the air to stand to his back. Reaching up snapping his neck and threw him on the ground. Christopher was yelling for me from his room, staring up seeing the pleading in his eyes for me to come back to him. My heart froze looking in his eyes. Wanting to go to him, wanting him to hold me. Wanting to kiss him and believe what he said was true. But when you live as long as I have you don't trust to easily, you don't make friends and you don't let anyone close enough to hurt you. You live off of your senses, for the kill, for the darkness and for nothing else but yourself. Hearing steps running up behind me. Turning to the other guard as he rushed to tackle me. Moving just an inch as he came rushing toward me for him to miss me turning and looking up at Christopher one last time. Snow and sleet came down into a whiteout. Moving to the gate and leaping over it and running into the whiteness of the snow and sleet.
