They made it to the forest border before Kael collapsed. One moment he was running, limping, bleeding, but moving. The next moment, his legs simply gave out and he went down hard, face-first into the dirt. “Kael!” Maya rushed to him and checked his body. There was blood. Too much blood. “I’m fine,” Kael said, trying to push himself up. His arms shook badly. “We have to go back. We have to—” “You can’t even stand,” Lyra said, opening her medical bag with shaking hands. “None of us can go back like this.” “Then we get help,” Kael said desperately. “We gather the camp.
