The gates shook under the impact.
Maya stood beside Kade on the wall, wind whipping her hair as she stared down at the sea of torches below. Hundreds of rogues. The Blood Fang had come in force.
“Open the gates,” Kade ordered, voice calm. Too calm.
Maya grabbed his arm. “You’re insane. We’ll be slaughtered.”
Kade turned to her, his eyes glowing gold. “We don’t win by hiding, Maya. We win by making them regret coming here.”
Before she could argue, the gates creaked open.
The pack surged forward behind them, a wall of teeth and claws. Maya’s wolf clawed at her skin, begging to be let out. She let it.
Bones shifted, pain flared, and then the world snapped into focus. Lower, sharper, faster. She hit the ground on four legs, fur bristling, a snarl ripping from her throat.
Kade shifted beside her in one fluid motion, massive black wolf with scars across his shoulders. He didn’t look at her. He didn’t need to. The bond told him she was ready.
“With me,” he growled, voice echoing in her mind.
Then they were running.
The first wave of rogues hit like a storm. Claws, fangs, blood. Maya moved on instinct, ducking under a strike and tearing into a throat. The taste of iron filled her mouth, but she didn’t stop.
Kade was a blur beside her, ripping through rogues like they were nothing. Wherever he fought, she fought harder. The bond between them burned hot, feeding her strength.
“Alpha down!” someone yelled.
Maya’s head snapped up.
Kade was on the ground, three rogues pinning him. Rage exploded in her chest.
No.
She launched herself across the field, slamming into the rogues with enough force to send them flying. She didn’t stop until they stopped moving.
When she turned back, Kade was on his feet, blood dripping from his muzzle. His eyes met hers.
Proud. Relieved. Possessive.
“Mate,” he said.
Maya bared her teeth at the remaining rogues.
“Come on,” she snarled. “I’m not done yet.”
The battle wasn’t over.
But for the first time, the Blood Fang was running.
