Chapter 12

ZARA’S POV “You know what, Nadia? I feel like pulling out your hair!” I said furiously. “No, you won’t do that,” she replied confidently. “I just want you to understand that you must never be involved with Marcus ever again. He is mine now.” Before I could give her a reply, she left hurriedly. My blood boiled and I felt like chasing after her and fighting her. However, doing that would probably upset me further. I wouldn’t embarrass myself in public because of a jerk like Marcus. Nadia could have him, they deserved each other. I drove back to my apartment and there, I tried to sleep. However, I couldn’t sleep no matter how hard I tried. My stomach was growling from hunger and I kept remembering how Nadia had been riding Marcus on the same bed I was lying on. At some point, I couldn’t bear it any longer. I would go to sleep on the couch. ** The real work started the next day as I had to move into the new place Victor had provided. It was a beautiful duplex and it looked newly constructed. Everything we needed as a couple had been provided so all I did was look through them. Kate had a brief discussion with the household staff while I looked through the rooms, waiting for Cael. Earlier, he had told me he was on the way. I had quickly noted the rooms and picked one for myself as I wouldn’t be sharing a room with Cael. It wasn’t too long until I heard his voice downstairs. I called out to him and he met me where I was. I had a smile on my face until I saw someone with him. “Ah, this is my assistant, Charles. He is my right hand man and he can be trusted. If you need something done and I am unavailable, you can go through Charles,” Cael told me calmly. “Nice to meet you,” I muttered. “It’s a pleasure, Miss Zara,” Charles replied gently. He was a huge man but his voice was so gentle. He had a sweet smile as well and I was sure he would do well with children. He might have just been the one who inspired the term ‘gentle giant’. “Just call me Zara,” I told him. I pulled Cael to my side and we both walked down, checking the rooms one at a time. “You can use the master bedroom. I will use the room down the-” Cael covered my lips with a finger and although I was taken aback, I didn’t move. He removed his hand and brought out his phone and typed something out after which he showed me. It read, “You have to watch what you say. There might be listening devices here.” I sighed and got the phone from him, typing, “How long do I have to keep my mouth shut? I can’t possibly do it forever.” He read and then typed, “It won’t be long. I have a team who handles cases like this coming to sweep through the entire house. They will be here in an hour.” I sighed in relief, “We should meet with the household staff. Let’s go downstairs.” Cael nodded and I led the way, holding his arm just in case Victor had hidden CCTVs around. I couldn’t afford to let him find out our marriage was fake. We went downstairs and there, all of the household staff had gathered. “You should meet Kate first. She will be our butler and I recruited her personally,” I said excitedly. “She was my childhood nanny.” “My name is Cael,” he extended his hand to her. “Please take care of Zara. She might look tough on the outside but she is very tender. Do not hurt her, I plead with you,” Kate said calmly. “You don’t need to worry,” he replied sweetly, a smile fixed on her face. “Good. You should meet with the main household staff,” Kate began to say. “This is John, the head chef. Lily, head of housekeeping staff. You can meet the head of security later.” “We actually have a head of security?” I asked, stunned. “Yes,” Kate answered. “Apparently, your step-father cares about you that much. He has provided eight guards to guard the house. It is a place filled with so much valuables both in person and material, isn’t it?” “Well, I’m not sure,” Cael cleared his throat. “Eight guards seems a bit too much. It’s fine though. I will accept his kind gesture.” I nodded in agreement and looked at Lily and John. Both of them were the main faces among the staff Victor sent and definitely, one of them would be his spy. I must be careful around them until I find who the spy is. “You should get to work then,” Kate said shortly. “Of course, I will deal with the affairs involving housekeeping,” Lily bowed slightly. She walked away gracefully and my eyes followed her out. Her face seemed familiar and I was certain I had seen her before at the main house. “Madam… Madam!” John called loudly. I turned to him quickly, only realizing that I had been looking at the place Lily passed even after she had left. “Oh, are you referring to me?” I asked him, hoping I didn’t act too strangely. “Yes,” John replied, smiling. “Now that you are married, you should be called madam. I would like to know what you would prefer for dinner. I understand that you didn’t have lunch today, I could prepare a light snack if you’d prefer that.” “Err… You don’t need to prepare the snack. As for dinner, I just want something healthy, nothing heavy,” I replied calmly. “What would you like, Cael?” “I would take the same,” he replied casually. “Alright, I understand,” John replied, smiling. He walked away now and we were left with Kate who ended up leaving in the next minute. Instantly, I turned to Cael. “Who do you think the spy is?” I asked curiously. “Lily is obviously cold but I think I have seen her at the main house before. I think she’s the one. However, John is smiling too sweetly. People like him are dangerous.” Cael sighed, “Just calm down. You’re too nervous for your own good.”
