Chapter 16. By the time the weekend had finally rolled in, Jake was already stressing himself out little by little while the days had passed. In the back of his mind, he shouldn't have agreed to doing the interview in the first place, could've said no and find somebody else to do it instead; but it was too late to want to turn back now so with a good front, he just had to take deep breaths, suck it up, and take as it was; besides, he couldn't go around it. With much convincing from his Aunt and Uncle as well as getting cab fare to get a ride to his house, the teen boy found himself on his front door step ringing the bell. While waiting, he then checked his shirt to see if it was wrinkled, the things that he had brought with for the interview, and his hair if it was knotted up. He wanted to look his best and if anything was out of the ordinary- Oh what in the Hell was he doing to himself!? it was just going to be an interview damn it! It wasn't like he was going to spend the day with him by any chance! He was just going to ask him some questions, get them on paper as well as on tape recorder and then leave nothing to it. He was just thinking too much on this. 3 minutes had passed and pretty soon the door finally opened up revealing to be Mr. Calloway himself in his blue and white plaid shirt that was undone to reveal a white tank top his pecs slightly showing through the thin material as he smiled at Jake who soon tried to stop his flushed face from being obvious as he was then invited in. "I do apologize for looking a little out of the ordinary, I was just doing some gardening in my backyard as well as getting some vegetables also." Jacob then raised his eyebrow looking quite interested indeed. "You garden?" Seeing him nod, he then brought him through the backdoor of his kitchen towards his yard where there laid a large garden that had 6 bags of dirt, some flowers that had already been planted, and some root vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and other organic necessities within the wheelbarrow like they had been taken out of the ground and already thoroughly washed. "Wow, did you do all of this?" Jake asked clearly amazed and impressed by what his Teacher did as George smiled. "You better believe it, remember from the other day that I told I had some errands to run?" Jake nodded. "Well, I had to go to the Garden Center to pick up some bags of soil along with packets of seeds to finish up my vegetable garden. Instead of getting them at the Supermarket, I plant them where I know they are organic; that way I know what I'm putting into my body." "That's awesome Mr. Calloway, I didn't know you had it in you." "Why thank you there Jacob, hey, that's what it is when you lived in Wisconsin for most of your life is all especially when both parents are also health critics themselves. Which reminds me, I need to bring some of those in, can you help me if that is no trouble at all?" Shaking his head, Jake then set to work helping the elder bring some of the fresh produce into the kitchen area where he was told to put them into the sink to get them washed once more as well as helping put some of the Garden supplies back into his tool shed. "How do you feel to some vegetable soup along with some homemade bread for lunch?" "That sounds great, sure thanks." Jake grinned as they both set to work on getting the tasks done at hand as George soon took out a big enough pot while Jake had cut some of the veggies to get started. He couldn't quite put a finger on it, but this actually felt so domestic within an afternoon setting although he never pictured doing this with his English Teacher, it sure felt nice yet calm even that it felt even more perfect. "How are these Sir?" George grinned. "Excellent, thank you Jacob." And so, with the necessary ingredients and the fire turned on medium fire, the two then set out to make the bread as the teenaged boy got out the things that the man needed and set out to start making the dough. Once the pan was now in the oven, it was now time to start the interview. Getting out the large notepad, pen, and tape recorder out of his tote bag, they soon sat down and went over the most important things such as his birth, what inspired him to become an English Teacher and why. Although he already knew about his early life due to the man in front of him telling him about his history, he still wanted the article to be professional where the students could be inspired by him to want to follow their own dreams as well as their own passions even. Mr. Calloway answered every question within a concise yet calm tone. If anyone were to tell him that he was going to start gaining popularity within weeks of him being a new addition to the school, he would've just giggled and want to change the subject, but seeing just how much his students gravitated towards him and even getting praises that he was such a rad Teacher and he should definitely stay to teach, he couldn't have felt more proud. His students were fun to deal with and he had even gotten some love notes from the teenaged girls along with their phone numbers on them. However though, out of all of the children, there was just something about Jacob that he was most intrigued. For one thing, it was his true dedication towards his education that he was highly proud of; he would tale the time and make sure that everything was done just right to his standards and if it didn't look good in his eyes, then he would start all over from scratch. His free spirit was what also captivated him the most out of it all that despite him being nearly a grown man, he still had that childish youth within him along with some maturity that was added into him too. And that was what he adored about him. Finally, the interview was now over as well as both the soup and the bread to be done just in time. The bowls were filled to the brim with the hardy veggies, the loaf was cut in thick slices as they both dug into their meal. "Mmmm...this is delicious, I've never had bread this good before, and the soup is just to die for." George chuckled seeing just how much his student was falling in love with his food. "Well I'm glad that you are enjoying it, plus it keeps you nice and full for a good few hours. They say that vegetables keeps you full as well as being full with a lot of fiber where you will be able to pass your stool a lot better. The nutrients in them helps to even give you a cleaner colon." "Wow, seems to me that you know a lot about Healthy Eating. But this is very good, especially the chunks of potatoes in here. It's like you can do it all, you teach, you garden, you cook, you bake, I mean is there anything that you can't do?" "Tap dance." Jake grew confused but soon started to chuckle along with George who laughed alongside with him as they finished their lunch in the remaining silence.
