Rosette's POV
The marble lobby of Voss Tower felt even more intimidating the second time around.
I smoothed down my black pencil skirt and adjusted the collar of my crisp white blouse for what felt like the hundredth time. My heart was racing with a strange mix of nerves and genuine excitement. This was it — my fresh start. No more sleazy bosses. No more scraping by. Just a real opportunity at one of the most powerful companies in the country.
“Miss Sinclair?” A polished woman in a navy suit approached me with a warm, professional smile. “I’m Lydia from HR. Welcome to Voss Enterprises. I’ll be giving you your orientation this morning.”
I returned her smile, clutching my portfolio bag a little tighter. “Thank you. I’m really excited to be here.”
She led me toward the private executive elevators, her heels clicking confidently against the marble. As we stepped inside, she began running through the basics — company values, dress code, benefits package that made my eyes widen. Health insurance that would actually cover my mother’s treatments? Sign me up.
The elevator climbed smoothly toward the top floors. My stomach fluttered with anticipation. I had spent half the night practicing my introduction and reviewing design trends. I wanted to prove I deserved this chance.
“You’ll be working on our flagship luxury campaign,” Lydia explained as the elevator dinged on the 45th floor. “It’s a high-visibility project. The team is excellent, and you’ll have access to resources most designers only dream of.”
We stepped out into a sleek, open-concept executive floor. Everything was modern, minimalist, and expensive — glass walls, dark wood accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic city views. People moved with quiet purpose, speaking in low, confident tones.
“This way,” Lydia said, gesturing down a wide hallway. “We’ll get you set up with your badge and workstation after the welcome meeting.”
As we walked, a strange flutter of awareness passed through me. For a split second, I caught the faint scent of sandalwood and spice in the air, and my steps faltered.
No. Stop it, Rosette.
I pushed the memory of him away. That stranger was a one-night fantasy. This was real life. My future.
We stopped outside a large conference room. Lydia turned to me with a bright smile.
“Before we go in, I should mention one important detail. Because this campaign is so critical, you’ll be reporting directly to the CEO himself, Mr. Andrew Voss. He takes a very hands-on approach with key creative projects.”
My heart skipped.
Directly to the CEO?
That was… intense. Most new hires didn’t even meet the CEO for months, if ever. Reporting directly to him felt like both an incredible honor and terrifying pressure.
I swallowed hard, forcing a confident nod.
“I understand. I’m ready for the challenge.”
Lydia opened the conference room door. “Excellent. Let’s get you introduced.”
As I stepped forward, a strange sense of foreboding mixed with my excitement. Something about this felt bigger than just a new job.
But I shook it off.
This was my new beginning.
Nothing — and no one — was going to ruin it.
