She is my mate,Kendra!!!

1533 Words
"She is my mate," a voice said from behind Kendra. Everyone turned, and standing there, dressed in all black from head to toe, was Karl. Kendra turned to him and back to me. "He is your... your mate?" Karl came close to me and held my hands, looking at Kendra. "Surprised? Anything wrong with that?" he said. People behind us started murmuring. Ara stood in awe, constantly pinching me. Kendra kept looking at me, and my heart felt heavy. I never understood this "mate" stuff, but if it would save me from this overgrown human, then yes, I was. "Kira," Kendra said, coming close to me. "Is he your mate?" "Yes, Kendra..." I boldly said, looking deep into his eyes. "He is my mate. He asked me to be his mate this morning, so?" Kendra scoffed. "You are in Rank 2 and asking a newbie out in the morning? Aren’t you a psycho?" he said, looking at Karl. "Only psychics behave that way because they are scared of losing those they admire at night." Kendra spoke as he kept looking at me, maybe indirectly waiting for me to deny Karl. "It’s my life, Karl speaks looking at Kendra close to his eyes,’ just like yours. You've been here long; I can choose to do what I like and at any time." Kendra came close to Karl and fisted his hands. "You want a challenge, huh?" he said, looking at Karl. "So full of himself," I found myself saying out loud. Kendra turned quickly toward me. He suddenly grabbed me by the waist and, just like bird, we flew away from that place and landed in an empty clearing that looked like a forest. I turned around and everywhere was empty; only the sound of birds could be heard. Kendra turned his back toward me. "Kendra, why are you doing this? Why did you bring me here? What’s with all this misuse of power?" Kendra quickly turned to me and grabbed my waist, pulling me close to him. He looked deep into my eyes, and my heart dropped in a way I can't describe. "Tell me, Kira," Kendra said, still holding my waist so tight against his chest. "Who are you, Kira? And why can’t I get my mind off you? What did you do to me?" My heart dropped as I looked at Kendra. He kept looking at me, waiting for answers. "Kendra, you mean you don’t recognize me?" I said, looking at him. "You don’t know who I was? Or are you just trying to be the Kendra you always were, right from when we were small?" He gently left my waist and drew back a little. "You know me from when we were little? Kira, I want to ask and beg you for something. I'm not doing it for any reason other than wanting to understand what’s going on in my body. Could you be my mate?" My heart dropped. "No, she can’t, Kendra," a voice said from behind me. We turned back and Karl stood there, looking at Kendra face-to-face. "I have always known you, Kendra, as a spoiled brat. Why are you fighting me for my mate? I just told you she is mine. Are you trying to pull a challenge?" Kendra scoffed. "A challenge with a Rank 2? Go ask for the Ultimates...we don’t do Rank 2, dummy." Kendra said, and within seconds, he flew away the same way he came. Leaves fell on the ground as he brushed against the trees and disappeared. Karl looked down at me and came closer. "Did he hurt you? Or try to bully you?" he asked. I immediately shook my head. "No, Karl, I am fine." He held out his hand for me to take. "Shall we?" he said, and I took his hand. He immediately held my waist and, just like that, we flew up, skimming the trees, and landed in the same place we had left. Ara ran to me, looking all over my body. "I hope he didn’t hurt you," she said, checking me. "Kira, come here!" a voice shouted from behind me. I was dragged out of the scene as people watched us leave. It was Syra, my sister. She dragged me very far away and stopped close to the school gate. "Kira, are you mad?" I looked at her, shocked. "You came here just a few hours ago and suddenly became the talk of everywhere. Is that how petty you could be? Trying to get everyone's attention because you don’t have powers, so now you want to be the talk of the school?" I was still surprised and didn't understand the reason for her lashing out. "I still don’t get it, Syra. You were supposed to ask if I am okay, not—" "Oh, stop it, Kira!" she cut me short. "You always knew I liked Kendra. Why did you make him notice you, even with how rudely you talked to him? All of that is just a prank to get him close to you!" I froze. "Oh, now I get it, Syra. Is this all about Kendra? And that’s why you had to announce to everyone that I am empty—just to get Kendra to look at you? Syra, I don’t even need Kendra anymore, that overly rude human. You always knew I liked him, but I can’t go on with someone as rude as that, okay? Just let me be, Syra. If you can’t be my sister like we’ve always been, then take your eyes off anything that concerns me from now on, Syra!!! Stop crossing my path, and I promise not to cross yours either!" Syra froze, looking at the sudden energy inside me. I walked off from Syra after my last warning to her, not waiting for her to say anything again. Getting close to the hostels, some students kept giving way for me to pass while others stood to one side, murmuring and looking in my direction. "Kira!" Ara rushed to me as I got close to the room and dragged me inside, shutting the door. She pushed me onto the bed, her mouth still wide open. "Kira, who... who are you?" she asked with a stammering voice. I looked at her face, not feeling anything inside of me—just normal, as I’ve always been. "I am Kira, like I’ve always been, Ara. I don’t get why they keep asking me who I am. Ara, I am an Emp!! Forget all that s**t I was acting out, I am nothing." "Shhh," Ara cut me short, using her hand to cover my mouth. "Kira, that’s a big lie. I have been here for more than three years, and that’s a whole lot of time to know how this school works. Kira, nobody has ever challenged the Ultimates—even Rank 3, which is very close to them—but you just did it freely and nothing happened!! Even when he grabbed you and disappeared. Kira!!!" Ara kept calling my name, but I still felt numb inside. I didn't understand the ranks and Ultimate stuff, but maybe it was because I had always known Kendra and how rude he could be. "Ara, like I told you, I just did me. No one can bully me, even when I know I am Level 0. I can’t start acting like Level 0." "Now I understand. Golden hair mixed with silver... that’s a very special mixture, you know." I scoffed. "You have come again with your golden-silver hair, Ara. Please, I need to sleep." I was about to lie down when my phone vibrated. It was a message from an unknown number: *Pull out for a challenge and show what you've got, or be disgraced by all. —Kendra* I read it out for Ara, still not getting the message. Ara’s mouth flew open as she held my hands. "Kendra pulled you out for a challenge? How could he do that, knowing you are still nothing?" "And what if I decline?" I said, looking at Ara. Ara shook her head. "Nobody the Ultimates pull for a challenge can decline. They are the only ones who can decline a challenge." "So what if I do? That’s what I am asking." Ara turned to me, holding both of my hands. "Kira, I know you have a strong mind, but you don’t have to keep breaking rules. It’s too early for that. Just... just go when the challenge is set and watch whatever he wants to do to you. Just accept it." I was quiet for some time. I still didn't get how the school works; I was still new here. "So, the challenge—what is it all about? A fight or...?" "A display of power, Kira. Showing what you've got, displaying your power, your might, your magic, and using that to fight or compete with your opponent." Ara breathed in. "And the whole school will be present to watch." I breathed in, and right now, my heart began pounding heavily. *Is he trying to embarrass me, knowing I am still nothing and empty?* I asked, still confused. "What date is the challenge?" "Tomorrow, Ara!!..."
