The Ride

515 Words
The chilling air of the air conditioner on the bus I was riding on was making my body hairs freeze. Plus, the rain outside was adding to the cold temperature I was feeling. It was seven in the evening, and I was still on a bus. If I hadn't chosen to finish my remaining work, I would have already gotten home by now. There were a few passengers left on the bus, including me. I was sitting alone on a three-seater seat while the others were sitting at a distance from one another. There was no passenger left behind my back, either, because most of the passengers were sitting near the front. I got bored, so I decided to open my cellular data and check my social media. I was just scrolling through f*******: and I found no important information, so I just turned off my phone once again. My eyelids felt heavy, so I closed them to take a siesta. But in the middle of my brief sleep, my phone fell off my hand, so I had to pick it up instantly. As I was about to pick up my phone, a hand showed up and grabbed it in haste. My jaw dropped. I blinked a couple of times and looked below once more, but my phone was totally gone. My heart went wild. I breathed hard and deeply. Shivers ran down my spine as I felt my body hairs become electrified. The last passenger who sat at the back of my seat had already left the bus twenty minutes ago. I tried to calm my nerves as I breathed slowly. I carefully turned around and peeked over the seat to see what was behind me. I almost screamed when I saw a face with a grinning smile looking at me. Her face was dead pale and her eyes were bruised. She was grinning, but all I could see was black liquid oozing from her mouth. I closed my eyes and slid down my seat. I felt my heart constrict as I breathed heavily. Just let me go.... I didn't mean to do it. Just forgive me. I gathered all my courage and strength to peek over my seat once again to see if she was still there or gone. It was a good thing she was gone and I found my phone on the seat. I heaved a deep sigh and immediately picked up my phone. Having been traumatized by what I'd experienced, I transferred to another seat nearer to the other passengers. I sat and calmed my system. My hand tightly held my phone. I fixed my gaze ahead, but the event earlier was still playing inside my head. I caught something unusual in my peripheral vision and instantly gazed at it. My lips parted as my eyes widened in horror when I saw the same girl at the back of my seat earlier outside the window. She was waving her hand at me... She was the girl I ran over with my car, accidentally... But she still hasn't received her justice.
