When Cody got home his mother had already finished cooking. She noticed his cheerful demeanour which made her smile a bit. "What has gotten you so cheerful?" She asked while raising an eyebrow curiously waiting for a reply.
"A boy named Tesla agreed to join our team for the entrance exams." Cody replied with a toothy grin plastered on his face.
"You should be careful from now on. Other students will target you to take your spot on your team." Nora added as she prepared the table. "Hurry up and wash your hands, you are serving the food. Oh don't forget to call Cosmo and tell him the news." Upon hearing those words Cody ran to his room to change into more comfortable clothes.
A clean room and a pure smile. These are the things we mothers love to see in our children. She thought as she removed her stained apron. She then looked at a picture hanging on the dining wall. With a gentle smile she then continued to go clean up.
"Before I forget, Sito said he'll be late." With that Cody finally entered his room.
"Sito. Why are you avoiding us?" She asked herself.
"Welcome home Tesla. How was work?" Asked an elderly woman sleeping on a couch close to the fire place.
"It was fine, Mr Gabu gave us some fruits and I also have some good news." Tesla replied with a smile on his face. The old lady sat up to listen to her grandchild. "A couple of people asked me to join their exam team."
"That's good news my child. It's time you focused on other things than me. You are not getting any younger you know and you need to start making friends your own age." She lectured the young before coughing a little. She slightly laughed while, thinking about the family picture in the basement. I'm glad he found some people to help fill that void.
"You better train hard. I don't want any excuses, neither will Mrs Nora be looking for an-." She suddenly stopped as her breathing became rapid and sweat dripped down her face like rain drops during summer.
"Here you go." Tesla spoke as he gave her a pain repellent potion. She smiled a little to try and calm down her grandmother.
It's been years since the mysterious disease was unleashed into this land. Everyone was affected however, the disease was at it's strongest against the Tsela clan.
Compared to the rest of the highest ranked clans, the Tsela clan had the most deaths. Among those ten thousands that were killed, were my parents, my older brother and grandfather.
Ever since that day ten years ago, I've been with my grandmother. She along with the previous Magi were the last ones to be infected in the last five years.
As the epidemic died down, the countrie's elders decided to remove the Tsela clan from the Parliament and replace it with another clan. Immediately after that discrimination against the Tsela clan increased to the point that we had to change our own identities as survivors in order to get jobs.
After making sure that his grandmother was asleep, Tesla opened the front door and left the house. He simply walked up to the guard rails across his house. He looked down at the entire city and saw a fellow Clansmen sleeping on the streets. "I will make it into the knight squads and I will work hard to be the Magi, so that one day, I can restore the Tsela clan to it's former glory."
"This is a promise." Tesla spoke as he looked at the statues of the former Magis.
"Sorry gentlemen, let us resume the Magi selection meeting." Said Ozen spoke as he entered a large hall. The floor had black ceramic tiles and with brown walls. A long wooden table was set in the center and a bunch of knights in purple uniform surrounded them. The ceiling was decorated with chandeliers that floated in mid air.
"We are not going to our homes until we decide who the next Magi is or at least go to a Royal pain match." He continued as he tapped repeatedly on the table with his finger. The other men mumbled amongst themselves, discussing on who should be nominated.
One man boldly stood up. His beard was on his chest and both his beard plus hair were grey. The man also had a lot of battle scars along his caramel skin especially his arms. His eyes were menacingly red and everyone at the table saw it. Before he could speak some of the other people mumbled amongst themselves.
"What arrogance." others quoted.
"Due to my respect for you Ozen. I would like to nominate myself Leo Mamba, to be the next Magi." He said with a deep piercing voice at the Sorcerer the second strongest person known in the country. The other clan leaders especially the Motsa leader shouted objected.
The leader of the Magongo clan sat at the far end, trying his best not to laugh. "One arrives late and the other just jokes around. Even after all these years those two never change." He told the Dlamini clan leader who sat next to him. During the chaos he looked up at the ceiling and smiled a little. "To be honest I'd rather have kids like them to lead. The old ways will lead this country to destruction someday. Change is needed."
"If change is needed, the ending of the current system must be destroyed first. I feel like that would be a hard thing to do Luton." The leader of the Dlamini stated as the two looked at the door behind the chair that belonged to the Magi. On the door a seal was written. "For example them, the elders must fall."
