Sable was hurt, but knew if she stayed she’d have to do what Storm said. This set her to thinking about the sheriff more and more. Although she couldn’t ride very well, she managed to saddle a horse and ride into town. When she burst into the sheriff’s office, he looked up at her with surprise.
“I hear I’m supposed to marry you.”
The sheriff watched her, seeing a rebellious streak a mile wide. “The fact is if you marry me, then I marry you, too.”
“Very funny. Well, this is how it’s going to be. I want—”
