Shattered Promise

1120 Words
The night was perfect—too perfect. The stars above blinked like silent witnesses to the love that had consumed me, heart and soul. The cool breeze carried the scent of fresh roses from our garden, and as Danny held me close under the moonlight, I felt like the luckiest woman alive. I had fought for this love. Fought with everything I had. I had bled, cried, endured humiliation, and given up everything I once held dear. And I would do it all over again for him. “I love you,” I whispered, my fingers tracing the sharp angles of his jaw, my heart swelling as he pulled me closer. His warmth seeped into my skin, grounding me in a world where, for once, I felt truly safe. “I love you more, Michelle,” he murmured, his lips ghosting over my forehead, his voice a soft caress that made my heart race. I closed my eyes, breathing in the scent of him, the man who had become my everything. The man the world had warned me against. The man my father despised, my brothers wanted dead, and society ridiculed me for loving. But I didn’t care. I had risked it all for Danny. When the world called me foolish, I held my head high. When my father disowned me, I stood firm. When the media mocked me, I refused to break. Because Danny was my heart. He was worth it. I had given him everything. My pride. My loyalty. My body. My soul. My child. There was no sacrifice I wouldn’t make for him. If he needed my life, I would give it without hesitation. Because I loved him beyond reason. Beyond logic. Beyond life itself. As we sat together, our fingers intertwined, my swollen belly resting between us, I sighed contentedly. Our son was almost here. Our beautiful baby boy. We had already named him Danny Jr., a symbol of our love. He would have Danny’s eyes, his strong jaw, his unwavering determination. And he would grow up knowing that his mother loved his father more than anything in this world. Danny smiled at me, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “You’ve given me everything, Michelle,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to my palm. “You’ve made me the happiest man alive.” Tears welled in my eyes. “I’d give you more if I could.” He chuckled, shaking his head. “You’ve already given me everything.” I rested my head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. My safe place. My home. But fate is cruel. The moment I thought I had finally won—finally found happiness—the universe ripped it all away. The doors burst open. The sound of heavy boots filled the air, and before I could react, nearly seventy armed officers stormed into the room. I froze. Danny stood, his grip on my hand tightening for a brief second before he slowly stepped forward. My brother rushed in behind the officers, his face pale. “Michelle, they’re everywhere—” Then, in a movement that shattered my entire world, Danny pulled out an ID badge. The air left my lungs. "Call me Inspector Danny,” he said, his voice steady, his posture unshaken. “I’ve been with the FBI for seven years. I infiltrated this family. I watched every move. And now, it’s over.” I felt the ground disappear beneath me. “No…” The whisper left my lips before I could stop it. I stared at him, my hands trembling, my heart shattering into a million irreparable pieces. This had to be a mistake. A nightmare. A cruel joke. He wasn’t serious. He couldn’t be serious. My Danny. My love. My everything. He wasn’t… FBI. He wasn’t. But then I saw it. The cold detachment in his eyes. The way he held himself. The way the officers listened to his command. And I broke. I gave you everything. The words burned my throat, but they refused to leave my lips. Tears streamed down my face as I staggered toward him, my belly heavy with the life we created, the life we dreamed of. “Baby, it’s me,” I choked out, my hands reaching for him, desperate to find warmth in the man who had been my salvation. “Please stop with this comedy. I’m pregnant. We’re about to have our son. We love each other. Tell me this isn’t real.” He didn’t move. I took another step. I tried to touch him. Tried to feel him. Tried to make him see me. But then… he stopped me. He gently grabbed my wrist before I could reach him. And his next words destroyed me. “I was never yours, Michelle.” The world fell silent. I stopped breathing. Stopped thinking. Stopped existing. “What?” My voice cracked, barely above a whisper. He exhaled, his expression unreadable. “This was never real. I came here undercover. I was sent to take down your father’s empire. I played my role. And now… it’s over.” I stepped back as if struck. My hands cradled my belly, my body trembling so violently I could barely stand. “You’re lying,” I whispered. But he wasn’t. Because the moment my father emerged from his private chamber, his face twisted in rage, chaos erupted. Gunfire. Screams. Blood. My father’s men—men who had supported this empire—fell one by one. And then, before I could react, Danny pulled the trigger. The bullet hit my brother. The same brother who had protected me. The same brother who had accepted him. The same brother who had welcomed him into our family. And Danny killed him. With no hesitation. A choked scream ripped from my throat. I fell to my knees, my hands gripping my stomach as agony consumed me. The man I loved. The man I gave my body to. The man I risked my life for. He had never been mine. He was the enemy. I sobbed so hard my body shook, my cries drowning in the chaos around me. I loved you. I gave you everything. I would have died for you. And this… this is how you repay me? Danny didn’t even flinch. He didn’t comfort me. He didn’t reach for me. He only turned away—as if I was nothing. My world shattered. The pain was unbearable. The betrayal suffocating. And as my vision blurred, as the room spun around me, as the love of my life destroyed everything I held dear… Darkness claimed me. And in that moment, I wished I had never met him.
