12 BLACK BEN The fish had only satisfied him for so long and now he was hungry again. He had plenty of water, but water alone wouldn’t get him to the Robbers Roost. He was heading due west, or as near as he could figure due west to be. It was hard to tell, because everything was flat and there were not much in the way of landmarks of any sort. All he knew was that if he kept going west, eventually he would get there. He had to. Otherwise, the ranger would catch up to him, and he would be done for. He rode and rode.
