“I’ll see you later,” I told Horse, and then I made my way up the back steps to my home above the saloon. It’s a modest place: a couple of bedrooms and a big kitchen/dining room. There’s a pot-bellied stove against the far wall in the kitchen, which keeps the place heated and cozy. I put another couple of logs in the stove to keep the heat up. There was no sign of Sally. She must have been out and about. Bart was there, and when he heard my boots on the floor, he bounded off whichever straw bed he was snoozing on and came to greet me, barking up a storm. He goes full-on crazy when there’s a knock on the door.
