Lynn scooped Calista into her arms and smiled, holding the wiggling child against her side as she carried her into the living room. “I’m fine, Alexis. It was just a tiny cut on my stomach. She’s not that heavy.” Lynn plopped on to the sofa with a giggling Calista.
“God, you listen about as good as my daughter sometimes.” Alexis laughed, leaning down to steal a quick kiss.
“Does that mean I should call you Mommy?” Lynn laughed when Alexis hit her with a pillow.
“What has gotten into you today? I don’t know if you need any more of those pills.” Alexis laughed, smiling as she watched how gentle and caring Lynn was with Calista.
