CHAPTER 12 - LAZY DAY

1600 Words
Buer didn't have any other choice but to go back to the hotel. Everyone was departing today. He had to go to bid goodbye. He had to instruct Louis about everything. This wasn't the first time he would be staying away from home. This was, however, the first time he was not sure of the time of return. Louis was responsible to make sure that nothing goes wrong. He had to instruct his army too. Buer would have to go back every two-three weeks for the weekend. Making sure that nothing gets out of hand. He also had to give out the good news. He was no longer single. By the time he was back, it was almost dinner time. Stor had already left. Kron had pissed him off last night. Kron was waiting eagerly to make fun of him. One look at him, Kron shut up. Buer wasn't in the mood for games. Louis didn't take the fact well that he was the one in charge. His newest born was turning one and the man had planned a vacation. Sadly, he would have to suck it up. There was no other way. Louis glared but Buer glared back. “Listen. Just take care of things for a while. Once I'm back, I'll give you an off for the year.” A year. He was that desperate. “All of this better be worth it.” “Oh it will be.” This time Buer used a key to open the door. He expected her to be completing her homework. Not make an excellent sketch of him. Definitely not that. “I am sure look I don't look this good.” Buer looked at the picture in awe. He meant what he said. He isn't as good looking at her sketch made her look. He was a brute, an animal. Not a beautiful man. August came to him, desperate to take the sketch away. He could see that in her eyes. She was ashamed. Embarrassed even. He did the one thing that felt right. Ripped off the page and shoved it in his pants. She wouldn't go down there. “Give it back.” She wasn't even looking at him. No. His ange was staring at his pants. Where the picture was hidden. Sure that her staring would cause an unwanted reaction, he brought her face up. To look into her pretty sun coloured eyes. “You are amazingly talented.” All this while, she made him think that she was bad at everything. Scraping through life. ******************************************************** “It's nothing great.” August didn't want to look him in the eyes but he just won't let go of her chin. In closeup, his eyes looked amazing. He looked amazing. Buer was just simply perfectly shaped. His eyes narrowed at me. Pulling me closer by the chin, he whispered. “Never….and I meant it. Never say that again in front of me.” They were so close that she could feel his breath. Smell his scent. “And what if I do?” August wasn't the naughty type. Never. But she couldn't resist. Maybe it was his smell that was hypnotizing her. “It won't end well for you.” The statement was threatening. But his tone wasn't. In fact there was an undertone of sensuality hidden. The moment was broken by a ringtone. Again. This time, August was ready to strangle the one on her phone. She answered even without looking at the caller ID. “What?” “Darling are you alright?” It was Grandma. August cleared her throat before replying. This time in a much softer tone. “Yeah, I was just sleeping.” Beside her, Buer rolled his eyes. Even she admitted that her voice was anything but sleepy. “Okay dear. I just called to check. You can go back to sleeping.” Grandma cut the phone before she could respond. “Sleeping?” His face said one thing. Like you couldn't think of anything better. “I usually don't lie.” Except to teachers. They knew that she was lying for years so that doesn't count. “Come on. Dinner time.” Buer decided on steak, mashed potatoes and gravy. It was such an American dinner. He said that he needed the meat. Of course he does. The man was a bear and would need meat to maintain that mountain body of his. “Don't cook a piece for me. I'll have from yours.” It was long time ago that she had that much of meat. She wasn't sure how much can be handled by her. “Okay.” He handled all the main work. All I had to do was to put the potatoes to boil. Feeling useless and the man cleaned the meat, August racked the shelves to find something. “How about chocolate cake for dessert?” She found a packet of chocolate cake mix. “It's instant. I not going to make it from scratch.” She clarified when he stared at her in horror. It was insulting not matter how true. She mixed the batter and moved it in a container and then in the oven. It would be ready in twenty minutes. By an hour, dinner was ready. Buer had the set the dining table in a fancy way. He hunted through the house for a tablecloth. Lit the fancy candle holder with held the scented candles. Which she didn't know existed until she smelled them. It smelled nice by the way. “I haven't done this in a long time.” She looked at Buer as he was cutting the steak. “Yes, I'll cut you a small piece.” He was referring to her earlier statement. “I meant never using this table with someone.” The statement caused a him to pause the cutting. He looked at her and all she could see was pity. “It's okay. I'm used it.” August shrugged. She was. It was now uncomfortable to be surrounded by people. But not Grandma. Or Buer. She liked them. And also Justin and Kevin. “When was the last time?” ************************************************************************************** Buer wanted to know. “Last Thanksgiving. I went to Marcy's house. She was one of my friends you saw yesterday.” This meant that the last time she had homemade dinner was almost a year ago. That too, not even family. Buer was itching to ask her about her family. But he would wait for the right time. “Well, we'll do a huge Thanksgiving this time.” As soon as she spoke, Buer knew that he had committed a mistake. It was too early. It would have been early even in November. He waited with baited breath. Waiting for her to respond. She spoke after a minute or so. “We will discuss this statement of yours but after dinner. The steak smells too good to let go.” He nodded. Explaining this would be tough. They food was exceptional. He wasn’t bragging but it was much better than usual. Maybe because he wanted it to be special. It was her first proper dinner in months. He wanted her to remember it. “This is so tasty.” He had given her more than half the steak. Besides it would need her three more portions to feel full. He wouldn’t mind going hungry to bed one night. If it meant that he could be near her, he would do it daily. They also had her chocolate cake to look forward to. “Thank you.” He replied, bringing out the cake as she finished the steak. “I can’t eat more than a small piece. The steak was already too much.” She spread on the chair, patting her stomach. She was a breath of fresh air. Not caring about her figure. She didn’t need too. Her curves were mouth watering already. Buer wasn’t sure how much more he could take. He cut a small piece and served it to August. “Have this much.” He took a small piece and kept the rest in the fridge. It was much better stocked. Better than beer and junk she had in it. The only healthy thing was cereal. Not that it counted. “Want to see a movie?” He wanted to teach her French. She was miserable. But she had almost one year till graduation. It would be fine to watch a movie for now. The last time he had watched a movie was maybe a decade ago. Or more. He wasn’t sure. “Sure. I’ll clean up here. You start the movie.” Buer shouted back from the kitchen. The lights were dimmed when he returned. August had started a movie called Pitch Perfect. He had no idea what it was but he assumed that it was something like Sound of Music. Of course, in a modern setting. “I hope you’re fine with this movie. It was the most non-girly movie I have. It was either this or Kissing Booth.” He had no idea what the other one was so he just nodded. It was mutually agreed that this former one sounded better. “Come on. I don’t have popcorn. But we can adjust with Smarties, eh?” That was her most Canadian statement till now. “Oui nous pouvons ange.” (Oui nous pouvons ange - Yes we can angel.)
