Inside the office, Kevin had already been beaten half to death. After taking two more kicks, the back of his head slammed hard against the floor, and his vision exploded with stars. A violent ringing filled his ears. He could no longer hear what Jasper was saying. The only thing he vaguely managed to catch was a couple of lines from Simon.
The moment Kevin heard Theo's name, his whole body stiffened. His eyelids twitched uncontrollably, and cold sweat spread across his scalp. Why were they suddenly bringing up Theo? Had they already found out about the Dawnblade deal?
Kevin could not tell how much they actually knew or whether they were bluffing the entire time. Ignoring the sharp pain at the corner of his mouth, he forced himself to answer carefully.
