Chapter 10: A Leg to Stand On  --------Malchior's Perspective----- My eyes open from my slumber. I slept well. I stretch out my arms and bump into something. What is this? There is a note on my dresser. How odd.  Dear Mal,  I wanted to let you know where I was going, but you were asleep. I didn't want to wake you, so I decided to leave a note. I'm on patrol in the city. I'm pretty excited about my first hunt. Don't worry, I won't take any unnecessary risks.  Sincerely,  Cassie  I grip the note tighter. What in the hell is she thinking? All of the hunters in the city want her dead. They are all looking for her and she goes into the city. Of course she does. That is my mate. Ever passionate and ever risk taking. She took a risk when she ran from her home. When she gave her life to the Council. And when she decided to live with me. Hmm, I am beginning to think she is an adrenaline addict. Still, she should not have gone out alone. Hopefully Charles went with her.  I put on my clothes and venture to her rooms. I open the door and find her not there. Of course she is not back yet. She is most likely galavanting around the city, getting herself into even more trouble. She and I are going to have a conversation when she gets back. I can feel someone behind me. I turn and there is Charles. What?! "Charles, is there a reason you are not with my mate?" He bows low.  "I am sorry, Master. Were you able to read the note she left behind? She had instructed me to make sure you read it."  "Yes, I read it. It did not leave much in the way of details. I believe I wanted you to take care of my mate. Was I not clear on this?"  "No, Master. You were extremely clear. I gave her what she needed and she dismissed me. I took care of her in the way I take care of you." I can see the glint in his eye. Clever bastard.  "Fine. I will not fault you this time. You only did what I asked. Did she tell you where she was going?"  "No, Master, she did not." Damn. I can hear a commotion from downstairs. I quickly arrive in the foyer. My mate bursts forth in front of me with a child in her arms. The doors begin to shut and I see multiple hunters behind her. Damn. I signal the outer sentries to kill the hunters. The doors close and I hear their screams reverberate. Good. That at least is taken care of. Now, my mate.  She has set the child down.  "Care to explain the state you are in, Cassandra? My mate stands before me in her black coat, her hair stuck to her face in sweat. Her breathing is exacerbated.  "I am waiting." I see her scanning me. Now is not the time to be doing so.  "She saved me." I glance at the child. Her blonde hair a mess, her clothes covered in dirt and her eyes. Her eyes are witch's eyes. Of course she did.  "Yeah....I saved her." I look back to my mate. She looks tired. Her legs begin to buckle. s**t! I move to catch her and carry her in my arms.  "Dammit! Are you alright, Cassandra?"  "Yeah, just need more stair work. That's all." Clearly she is delirious. That does not change the fact we need to talk. Now. I take her towards her room.  "What about-"  "It is fine. Charles will handle it. You and I need to talk. Now." I lay her down on the bed. Her coat fans out around her. Hmm, she is beautiful. That does not change her actions, though.  "Now, Cassandra. Explain." Her eyes seem to be shifting.  "Not now. Need sleep. After. Please." I can hear the strain in her voice. Alright. I will let her rest for now.  "Rest for now. But we will discuss this, Cassandra." I take off her boots and she closes her eyes. She is so gorgeous. So peaceful in her sleep. Take what peace you can, love. When you wake, there will be hell to pay.  --------End of Malchior's Perspective------ ---------Cassie's Perspective------ Woah. I don't feel good. I open my eyes and I feel like I got run over. I look over and see Mal. Huh, he didn't leave. What time is it?  "Morning, Mal."  "It is actually evening. How are you feeling?"  "Other than the aches in my legs, not bad." I can feel his eyes pierce me. s**t. I am so in trouble.  "What the hell were you thinking? You could have died."  "Look, I let you know what I was doing. I didn't take any unnecessary risks."  "Going into a city full of hunters who want you dead, is not a risk?" Damn, he's got me there.  "Okay. So, there were some risks. But, it turned out all right."  "This time. Who is to say what will happen next time. You should have woken me."  "It was day time. I was being cautious the whole way. I had my eyes open the whole time."  "It does not matter! If you had been overwhelmed, you would have been killed. I would have found your corpse in the city streets. Do you have any idea the effect your actions have?" s**t. I didn't think. I should've realized how this would feel for him.  "I'm sorry, Mal. I didn't think about how you would feel about this. I was...a bit overconfident in my skills. I thought I could handle it. Turns out, I was wrong. I am so sorry." I hear him sigh.  "As long as you have learned from your mistake, I will forgive you. Promise me, love. No more hunting on your own. Please take someone with you."  "I promise. No more solo hunts. I did manage to save someone though."  "I noticed. The witch girl."  "Yeah! Some d**k of a hunter was going to kill her. I stopped it from happening. It felt so good to help someone. Normally, I get there after the c*****e has happened." It could've been so much worse. He could've killed her. No, she's safe. You did it.  "I am glad you were able to help her. Even though it risked you."  "I know. I didn't realize how stupid I was being until Julian grabbed me." s**t! "Excuse me. Will you please explain, now." Hmm, he has that authoritative voice on. So sexy. Focus, Cassie.  "Well, I was taking in the city when I felt someone grab me. Turns out it was Julian. Thank goodness, any other hunter would've killed me. Anyway, he had some crazy plan. He wanted us to have a fake marriage. I pretty much told him to shove it. Then I heard the girl and got to work. And that's pretty much it." How is he going to take this?  "Did he explain why he wished to 'fake marry' you?"  "Something about being married to a hunter would stop the death sentence. Even if it did, which it won't, I would never marry him. Never. And I told him that. I made my feelings perfectly clear to him. So...you don't have to worry....or anything." Dammit, I hope he doesn't worry about this.  "I am not worried, love. Thank you for being concerned for my feelings."  "Of course. I never want to hurt you again." He cups my chin gently. His lips press to mine. Hmm. I can feel his tongue twist around mine. The heat spreading down to my core. Dammit, he really has an effect on me. I pull him closer, twisting my tongue with his. Hmm, tastes so good. His body half lies on mine, my lower half free. His weight feels so good. His hands start to move towards my breasts. No, not ready. I pull away.  "I'm not ready yet." I look into his deep sea eyes, such kindness.  "Of course, love. Please let me know when you are." He pulls away from me.  "Right. So, um, what are we going to do about the kid?"  "I am sure Charles is locating her family or her coven. If she does not have one, the Council will find her one. I am so proud of you." Dammit, he's gonna make me blush.  "It was nothing."  "No, it was not. You risked your life for a supernatural being. You saved her."  "Of course I did. She's a child. An innocent. I protect the innocent, period."  "If you keep talking like that, I may have to kiss you again." He looks at me lustily. Hmm, damn him. He so sexy.  "You can kiss me...just not other stuff. I'm not ready for anything else."  "I understand, love." His lips caress my mouth yet again. Hmm, so good. My tongue instantly responds to his. His mouth feels so good on mine. Hmm, I could spend forever kissing him. A knock at the door. Dammit! We break apart.  "Wonder who that is?" Mal goes to answer the door. Charlie is standing there with what looks like a note. Wonder what's going on? Charlie bows and leaves. Mal reads the note.  "Hey, what's going on? Did something happen?"  "It is a note from your Mother." Well, s**t!  End of Chapter 10
