CHAPTER ONE
Evening at the Thanos mansion
LEXARA'S POV
"Don't you think this dress is too revealing?" I asked, eyeing the silver sleeveless gown Rakeri was holding. It seemed too beautiful for someone like me, a bastard, to wear.
"Xara, this dress was made for you," Rakeri countered, still holding it out. The designers had you in mind when creating it. Can't you see it matches your silver eyes perfectly?"
I looked away, reluctant to wear the dress. I hated drawing attention to myself.
"No, I'll probably wear something else," I said, making weak excuses. "It's too...too outstanding."
"Did I hear you say something else?" Rakeri teased, knowing I had nothing else to wear. Or do you want to go looking like a parlor maid? Come on, this dress will help you gain favors tonight."
She, on the other hand, was putting on a short cherry-red gown that showcased her curves and cleavage. Her recently dyed black hair framed her snow-white shoulders, and her red lips, like her father's, seemed to have kissed many souls. She would undoubtedly leave many breathless at the party.
After helping me into the dress, Rakeri attempted to apply makeup on me, but I refused, allowing only a hint of gloss. She had brought a silver heel to complement my outfit and ordered me to put it on.
"Why don't you wear more gloss? "The maroon gloss would do the job perfectly," she rolled her eyes tiredly.
I sighed and quickly did her bidding, not ready to go into a battle of words.
As I finished getting ready, admiring myself in the mirror, I heard the familiar feathery footsteps approaching my door. I instantly knew it was my mom. What did she want now? Did she always have to torment me?
"Why didn't my room receive recent flowers from the garden?" my mom yelled from outside the door. I prayed she wouldn't enter. I quickly turned off the light, pretending to be asleep.
"Lexara!! I'm talking to you, or are you dead already? Why aren't you replying? I've come to release you. Grandpa needs to show you to someone," she thundered, jingling keys, threatening to enter.
When my mom opened the door, Rakeri growled softly.
"Why's the room so dark? Lexara, are you asleep?" she asked again, switching on the light.
My heart pounded loudly as I shivered, sweat dripping beneath me. I knew I was in grave danger.
"Get up!" she commanded.
I silently wished she would go away. I didn't want her to see me, not in this revealing gown that Rakeri had me wear.
"I said get up!!!" she yelled, and I could feel her approaching the bed, which was adjacent to the door.
"Are you deaf? Oh! If you allow me to get to you…" she hung the statement.
"My lady, the Alpha, wants to speak with you in his library," a maid said outside my door, diverting my mom's attention from me and unknowingly sparing me from further punishment.
"So, is that why you yelled at me?" Her voice became meaner as she walked towards the door where the maid stood.
I was overjoyed by the sudden turn of events, almost blowing my cover by removing the blanket. I realized my mom hadn't mentioned Rakeri, who was supposed to be in my room.
"Where was she?"I thought deeply, still snuggling beneath the sheets.
"Okay, I'll be there in a jiffy," she said to the maid, dismissing her.
"And you, Lexara, why are you still covered up? You must think me mad, ranting alone without reply. We shall see who'll run mad first between the two of us. Those wings you think you've acquired will be adequately pruned," she concluded, slamming the door shut and locking it.
I removed the blanket to find an empty room. Rakeri truly was gone.
"But she was just here?"I whispered to myself.
I cast a desperate look at the old-hand-me-down rickety clock. It was already 8:00 pm. Could she have gone to the party without me? But no, Rakeri wouldn't do that... would she?
In a moment, she appeared gracefully.
"Hi, cousin," I caught a brief twinkling in her eye and a blood smear on her hair, as she slipped in like a thief in the night.
But I was too relieved to ask questions. She hadn't left me, at least I could count on her.
At the Party
Never in my entire years of sneaky partying have I ever encountered such monstrous noise. The party was booming with pollution. Kant's large sitting room was transformed into a club-like atmosphere, with blue lights creating a romantic ambiance.
The room was filled with attractive men and women dancing together, their revealing outfits making mine seem conservative in comparison.
Not quite feeling in the mood to dance, I found a less quiet place to sit. A place that could give me a chance to see all the entertainment and remain covered.
I searched for Rakeri but couldn't find her in the crowd. Feeling overwhelmed, I got up from my seat to find the restroom, as nature was calling.
Unknowingly to me, the urgent nature call had somehow managed to pale my facial color and, at the same time, make me lose my lady-like composure.
It was only when a dashing young man was staring animatedly at me that I realized my disordered composition.
"Are you alright?" he asked in a soft but masculine voice. I was so captivated by his voice and looks that I didn't process his words.
He had to repeat the question for me to register it, and that's when I realized my mouth was agape. "Hmmm... Sorry... "I'm... sorry," I stammered, trying to find a way to escape, but my body, especially my legs, seemed rooted to the spot.
DEREK'S POV
The party was a bore to me. There were no ladies that were to my fancy, and everyone was dancing with their partner.
I decided to go to the bar at the far side of the party hall, leaving the comfortable sofa I was sitting on.
I was concentrating on reaching my destination, getting vodka and quenching my thirst when I sighted a lady in distress.
It was a young girl of no more than 20, as I could tell with the innocent look on her face. Her fairly rounded breasts and n*****s were noticeable, and her hair was of the darkest black.
Her eyes, God, were nakedly silver. Her lips were the softest maroon I'd ever seen. She had good taste in fashion as she was the only noticeable silver beauty at the party.
"Hope you're alright?" I asked, searching the nape of her neck for any mating bites, which I saw none. In reply, she drooled, signifying that she equally found me very attractive, which, for starters, was a superb thing.
I repeated the question, and she replied in an angelic bedroom voice which sent shivers down my pants. The stammers were like musical blues in my ear.
"So where are you headed?" I asked, trying to lessen the lust in the air. "Uhmm... Nowhere, actually. I was just…" her voice trailed off midway.
I hoped she'd go on so that I could continue listening to those musical tones. I quickly took advantage of the change in music from hip-hop to salsa.
"Will you let me lead you to the dance floor?" I asked, and she replied with a nod.
LEXARA'S POV
He asked me where I was headed, and I noticed to my amazement that the urge to urinate had vanished. I replied in the negative.
His deep voice was working wonders between my legs, and I was convinced my bladder was leaking or something. He towered sexily above me, unconsciously shifting his wavy brown hair away from his handsome face.
The sparse mustache on his face added to my heart's quickening rate. His blue eyes mirrored my aches and pains and were gentle and fierce at the same time.
"From what heaven could such an angel fall from?" I pondered on the dangerous thought.
Then, he asked me for a dance. My heart leaped six feet away from its position, and I could almost feel it in my mouth.
"I'm not conversant with salsa dance," I said. He smiled, and his lips tempted mine to come for a gentle lick.
"I'll teach you on the dance floor; it's not difficult, you'll learn in a jiffy," his muscled hands found a way into mine.
We went to the dance floor, which was in the middle of the hall, where all the sofa seating eyes would be watching.
Then, he took my hands in his, as he slowly whispered the numbers, "One leg forward, one leg backward." I gave my full attention and was concentrating on his tutoring when I heard someone scream my name. I froze, for that voice belonged to only one person.
