Note on Sources Although The Jesse James Scrapbook is a work of fiction, almost all of the incidents it depicts are based on actual, or at least legendary, incidents. For facts concerning the outlaws I have mainly relied on three well-documented books: Jesse James Was His Name, by William A Settle, Jr., The Outlaw Youngers, A Confederate Brotherhood, and Jesse James, the Man and the Myth both by Marley Brant. Several other books, some very old, employ a more anecdotal approach to the James legend and provided much of the inspiration for the approach used here and for many of the incidents depicted.
