January 1874Cole Younger Letter to The Kansas City Loyalist Dear Editor, I have recently been mentioned in a certain letter written to and published by your newspaper, and I do not appreciate having my name bandied about with no thought to truth or honesty. I trust you will cease and desist from such practices. I cannot say what may have prompted Mr. J. W. James to use my name in connection with the tragic robbery that occurred at the Kansas City Exposition almost two years ago, but I deny any knowledge of, or participation in, that awful event. It is true that I was acquainted with Mr. James during the War for Southern Independence as the both of us were, for a time, at least, Partisan Rangers in the service of our country.
